I always try to be careful with what I carry on me, but yesterday I was in Bangkok and planned on making a couple of purchases so had a couple of credit cards on me. My wallet was in a zip pocket (that was zipped up) and as I was going to leave I realised that it had been taken. I didnt even notice someone unzipping the pocket and taking my wallet! So I lost my credit cards and driving license, but luckily I keep my Thai debit card and cash in another pocket.
Its frustrating now because I have no credit cards or UK debit card till I go back to the UK in 3 weeks.
So just a warning for anyone who goes to the markets in Thailand (this was in Chatuchack) to keep your hand on your wallet at all times :(

I had mine taken last week from a zipped up pocket in the middle of a mosh pit while watching lamb of god. Sneaky *****! I didn't even realize it had gone until I put my hand down to specifically check for it. 3 or 4 seconds is all they need.

Stop cards and wait is all you can do after though :(

How can anyone have their zipped pockets opened without them knowing.

Never happened to me and it never will.

Many many people live their whole lives through pickpocketing. You won't believe how good some people are at it until you fall victim to it yourself.

Believe me, it's easy for your mind to wander so you don't notice. To be fair I was in a mosh pit surrounded by hairy men (and hairy women) when mine was unzipped so it was a bit harder to notice. But even so if you're concentrating on something else in a market or where ever it's surprising how unself-aware you can become without realising.

must have the stuff I wear would be pretty impossible for them to pick pocket.
If they tried, I'd know about it :p

Unlike some people who have half their wallet hanging out!

This is why I keep anything valuable in my jeans' front pockets. My phone always in the left one and wallet in right one. Nothing can get in there without me noticing it, unless it's a very well lubricated fish.

Same here, but I was wearing a pair of shorts where there are 2 front pockets on each side, 1 zipped, 1 with no zip.

I cancelled all my cards within 20 mins of realising it was stolen, which was no more than 2 hours. All the card providers confirmed the last transactions and said anything beyond those transactions would be unauthorised and cancelled, so Im pleased about that.

You sound very sure about that. How are you going to guarantee it will never happen to you?

If you don't think you'll be pick-pocketed you'll lose your wallet on a plane :o

And not realise for a week :o

I'm now totally paranoid about everything. And still left my sunglasses in ben and jerries on holiday, and my laptop on a plane....(got both back fortuntely)....

I'd like to see some **** try and lift my wallet! They can try, but then I'm going with it due to the large metal dog-chain that keeps it attached to me!

Cheers for the heads-up panthro. I walk around the night markets at sukhumvit most nights and I have to admit I'm pretty careless with my valuables. More than one occasion I've gone to leave a bar/cafe and get a dissaproving look from the g/f and realise I'd left my wallet on the table :o :D

One time I left my bank card in a ATM in chinatown, but luckily a few hours later I found that a local bank had got it, and I just had to show them my passport to get it back.

You should get yourself a bumbag, or a wallet satchel that you hang round your neck, never get pinched that way. You may look like a fool but you'll be a rich fool.
