I currently have a PowerColor 4870 1GB card, shall probably be building a new system within the next few weeks. With quite a few new games using nvidia physx, i am tempted to go Nvidia. But not 100% sure how the 275GTX compares to the 4870?.

I used to be a Nvidia man, the last card i had was the 8800GT, but was having problems with the Nvidia Control Panel and get different resolutions to my PC monitor and my HDTV, seemed i could only get 1 resolution across the 2 monitors, this was 1 of the reason i went over to ATI, did everything i wanted in regards to 2 display setup and was a breeze to set up. Has this changed now and is the Nvidia Contorl Panel a lot more user friendly?

275GTX is the better card... but its not a huge increase in performance... I deffinatly wouldn't base purchasing a card on physx.

nVidia has always been better for multi display in my experience.

Personally I'd say stick with the 4870.

Yeah i might do, i mean im happy with the performace of the 4870, plays verything i throw at it on high settings, so if the 275 is a little bit better then thats good, im guess the extra 104meg DDR5 the 4870 has wouldnt make a scrap of difference??

Thats said, im building a whole new system and demand all shiny new components :D

The extra VRAM would only make a difference if you were playing at very high res or a game with a huge texture/model load... in which case both cards would be brought to their knees anyhow.

had the same experience with the 8800GT and 9800GX2 :(
I feel your pain.. one of the reasons why I'm going to buy either HD 4870 or HD4890 pretty soon.. or If I can wait, see how the DX11 cards will be priced, and base my decision on that...

don't know if its just us, but I think Nvidia's multi display support is rubbish based on my experience... tried all different drivers and always had at least 1 annoying bug with multi display :(

If you really want a new card lettuce, then atleast get something of a worth while upgrade. Go for a 285 or SLI some 275's.
But you may aswell just keep the ATI for a bit longer, and get a DX11 card when they're out.

BTW, yes you can set individual monitor resolutions with NV cards/drivers.

+1 new cards are like a few months away tops card you buy will be worth half what it is today prolli less secondhand.

get yourself a 8800/9800 card for dedicated physics ;)

Use ultramon or even vista for setting up resolutions ?

I honestly can't see the problem, my monitor ( recognized as a hdtv) runs 1920x1080 and my 2nd monitor runs 1280x1024, never had any problems... With any drivers and I've gone through many over the years !

But OT:

Keep the 4870, difference is negligible. Physx is barely visible in games imo, overmarketed.

regarding the desktop.. I'm guessing that you have spanned your desktop rather than just replicated it? so two compleatly different workspaces?

I cant honstly remember, it was over a years ago

Looking at this comparison vid of the new Batman game, theres a far few more effects added,

With regards to swapping a 48701GB with a GTX275, it's a waste of money, don't waste your money.
