Hi there,

Anyone know how long I have to legally hold onto an assured shorthold tenancy agreement.

I had some trouble with a recent tenant who basically didnt pay rent then upped and left the property, now they are having some problems (regarding paying the outstanding gas and elec bills from my property) and need a copy of the tenancy agreement, they left 6 months ago, do i have to supply it?

I dont know how this will help as it will make whoever reads it believe they WERE in the property when they say they werent.

They are not trustworthy and could be up to no good so im reluctant to provide it.

Any help would be appreciated, Im having a bit of a hunt around the web at the same time of writing this and its not clear for tenants who have left the property (and broke the agreement anyway)

sorry sr4470 didnt read this until after the msn request by all means send it again, i usually dont accpet unless you say who you are.

Everything was sorted re rent payments I got some of the money back and was happy to get rid of them and move on with my life and now have a perfect tenant, they have just asked for a copy out of the blue.

Just figured it would save repeated posts on here ;)

You're not obliged to provide it if it no longer applies, AFAIK. If they couldn't pay rent or bills on time and fled then I wouldn't really be inclined to help them.

me neither, they can go jump! i bet theyre trying to screw it so i end up having to pay part of the bill....not happening.

Unfortunately the bad apples make it difficult for the rest of us to get somewhere to rent. Especially if you ever find yourself needing to claim housing benefit.
