Right. A friend of mine has been offered either the 8520 or the Magic as an upgrade for their contract.

I've got an omnia hd and dislike blackberry's very much, so I've suggested the Magic, but she's yet to be sold.

So I'm calling on the OcUK faithful, which would you choose??

magic.

I have one and it's great (would rather have a hero but i'm stuck to vodafone). I hate to admit it, but the magic would suit a girl quite well in terms of it's physical appearance. Also, blackberry's are extremely dull. The most exciting application on a blackerry is probably some kind of personal finance thing. She could spend hours configuring email alerts and meeting reminders with the b'berry or she could do all of that...and have fun with the magic.

Indeed...nothing wrong with Blackberries...they are very good at what they do and unlike other smartphones out there they dont have a tendancy to crash and hang.

OP i have the Magic and a Blackberry Bold...i like the Magic but honestly typing on it isnt near as good as the Curve 8520...mainly because it has a QWERTY keyboard rather than a touch screen...dont get me wrong i like my Magic but when it comes to emails, texts etc etc the Blackberry is the best device for that type of useage.

Really she needs to be asking herself..will she be using email??..if so the BB is great at 'true' push email....plus its very easy to send off a long email...much more than the Magic which i have synched to my gmail account. As much as the Blackberry is a business orientated phone, its also a very competant media phone as well...and i see more and more people with Blackberries now so they must be doing something right.

If i had a choice between my Blackberry and Magic...it would be the Blackberry all the way...sadly im stuck with the Magic till next yr.

Ha, fair play............that is mostly true i admit. My house mate has one (8900) and i've used it a fair bit though and there is no android market so i'm not interested (personally). I'm genuinely interested though.....Tell me exactly what a blackberry does that an android phone doesn't.

Well, to be fair the only blackberry I've used is my work phone. Can't remember what model it was, but it definetly is a good business phone, even if the keyboard and layout took me a while to get used to.

She's certainly not after a lot of emailing, it'll be used for facebook, texting, music and pictures.

The way I see it is the magic will be better for her due to its superior camera and if it's anything like the G1 it should be pretty sleek to use. Having not used a newer blackberry I'm not sure how well they cope with pictures, music and the like, so was looking for some ocuk advice :p

Well my Bold has an official FB app which unlike the Magic and Android costs me nothing and it synchs well with my contacts...for my Magic i had to pay $2 i think and even then its not that great an app....trust me the camera on the Magic isnt that great...hell my Bold which has a 2mp camera takes better pics due to the fact that it has an LED flash on it...the Magic doesnt even have that.

The newer Blackberries are much better devices now for multimedia use...i have quite a few mp3s on my Bold and it sound spot on but then the Bold is an expensive handset...best in the blackberry line up so will be much better than the lower blackberries.

Also Blackberry now has its own app world;) plus anyone who knows anything about blackberry usually resides over at www.crackberry.com.

Thanks for your comments Spawn, I can see that the curve might not be that bad a purchase anyway.

She's probably going to go for the curve, maybe it will change my opinions of Blackberrys for the better :)

I personally would have the Magic because I like Android and the direction it is going in, but Blackberry's are also very nice so you can't really go wrong.

No probs dude...Blackberrys arent all that bad to be honest...ive had my Bold since Dec of last yr and i cant say ive ever been disappointed...once the initial novelty factor of the Magic wore off...i went back to my Bold...teh Magic is great for multimedia imho and i think Android is going to be excellent but for my day to day use the Blackberry bold cannot be beaten.

Like i said ive seen plenty of people and not just business types now rocking Blackberries....saw a couple of hot girls with the Blackberry Curve 8900...which in itself is a good little phone.
