Hi all,

You know that horrible feeling in your stomach when you've scratched your car pretty badly ... well I have it :(

I guess it was going to happen sooner or later but now I must concentrate on not letting it happen again. Putting PCs in my car every day is quite dangerous to the paint work of my car I guess. I put a customer's PC in my car this morning and being pretty careless I've managed to scratch and cause a small dent just above the rear wheel arch on my mk3 mondeo.

I've got one other big dent (crease) and a scratch on the driver's door as well.

I was wondering how much I would be looking at to get all of these looking brand new again, if that's feasible?

Pics...

^ This is the one I did earlier, and it's a horrible looking once, dark scratch with a nice little dent to go with :(

^This is what happened when my daughter hadn't closed her door properly and it was stuck in the neighbours slatted fence. Reversing resulted in this. Stupid of me really! I was mortified and almost in tears when it initially happened but I've learnt to almost live with it now..

^This scratch isn't as bad as the other anomalies.

The first dent doesnt look too bad - I'd be suprised if that couldnt be knocked out and painted.

The last one again doesnt look too bad, a bit of polish might even lessen the appearance of it.

The door though looks a bit of a mess - it may be easier and cheaper to try and find a decent second hand door and just replace it? I'm sure its repairable but you shouldnt struggle to find a silver Mondeo being broken

Mk3s arent - only the Mk1s and 2s :)

Indeed, Mk3's are lovely cars :D which is why I've got the Chips Away people coming to give me a free quote on the scratch I conjured up today.

I'll get a quote for the dent but I'm probably better off going down the route you said, thanks for your first post btw ;)

Just had a quote on the first scratch (done this morn) for £140... does this seem reasonable? Includes colour matching/respraying/dent removal.

Silver can be a pain to match from what I've heard. Yours looks like mine and mine's moondust silver but the exact shade might be different. I'd be inclined to assume you're going to need to have the whole panel sprayed - if you take it to a body shop with the plastic and glass off it, they'll probably do it for 50 quid or so.

£140 sounds OK, on the high side but I think those places normally are. You'll probably get a better deal finding a local body shop and getting them to do the lot at once

That first one could probably be filled but you're going to be looking at preping and painting on two panels in order to get a decent blend, the second you may find they can pull out, otherwise, same scenario as the first. The third looks like it could well just polish out.

Taking the plastic and glass out wont make a great deal of difference to the price as they are not very time consuming jobs and they are more likely to mask them anyway if you want a cheap job. A lot of the cost will be the paint and time it takes to prep the panels.
