Hey guys,

I'm selling a N97 on eBay and got a response from someone who wants to do local pickup, but pay via paypal. They have no feedback BUT their account was created end July of this year. Any thoughts?

I'm considering asking for bank transfer to prevent PayPal issues and requiring the funds be sent before I give him the meet up point.

If they are doing a local pickup, whats wrong with cash?

I dont trust paypal, so i personally wouldnt.
 
Good point about the cash, however I'm worried about fake notes/ fruad or anything like that. Either way he hasn't got back on if he can do a bank transfer (seems to be the safest way).
 
I'd say don't take payment via Paypal for any kind of electrical goods, ever. It's just too easy for people to scam you later on.

Oh, and "pickup, but pay by Paypal" is a classic scam. Don't do it.
 
I'd say no, but have actually done this myself for a laptop.
I had the money in my paypal account and was going to get the seller to post it, but bizarrely found myself very near them at the weekend due to work. I arranged to meet him, made the paypal payment in front of him and he checked to see it had been received.
I then left immediate +'ve feedback on ebay and he did likewise. No issues at all.
 
Thanks for your help guys. I've had another buyer contact me (15 feedback on this one) requesting the same thing, but in both cases I've stated I'll accept back transfer only, it would be a bit pointless using the cash point as I'm selling it for £300+.
 
Ive sold plenty of phones with people coming around my house and paying CASH...dont take paypal as payment...just tell him if he wants a local pickup then its cash only simple.

If you decide to take a bank transfer then id wait till you actually got the funds in your bank or unless he provides proof of a deposit...otherwise he could be lying about the bank transfer.

Thanks for your help, if the buyer uses PayPal but wants it posted would that be okay as I have proof of sending it from Royal Mail? Thanks again.
 
ive heard so many horror storys with paypal, i always go by the rules, but it still worrys me when i sell something dear !

Someone posted in GD who got the exact scam pulled on them a few months back.
