i have a 4870x2 and its dying, its under warrenty, but its a tempromental fault. so ocuk probably wont replace it. i was going to buy a new one and throw this in the bucket but there are no x2's for sale anymore >< have they been discontinued? :/

Its not clear if the x2 has been EOL'd or stock is just short at OcUK most other places have stock. You should be able to get a refund and by something else though.

ahh. i see! its just my card. often will boot with post screen corruption. lots of green rectangles in a pattern all across the screen. and ill turn it off and on a few times and it will be ok, and sometimes using the computer normally on the desctop, it will suddenly get severe corruption and then lock up like a minute later. and it plays games well enough, no corruption in them, but will randomly lock up sometimes, and because its not a constant problem. i fear if i send it back to ocuk, they will test it to be ok then send it back to me and charge me for testing it >.<

Dont Clockers test it over a period of 5 days....will your temperamental fault occur over this sort of time scale? Is there a way you could place your faulty card into another PC?

ahh. kool. so they keep it in a pc running for that length of time? that would be good. it usually goes much quicker than that. but before i send it to them, i will try and test it in someone elses pc, if i can find someone! haha. thanks

LoL, throw it in the bucket?!?!?

If you are going to do that, you could just send it to me instead!!!! :D

Seriously though, wouldn't you be better off sending it off to the manufacturers instead, if it is EOL then they will send you out something else that is either the equivalent or better.. at least this is what most manufacturers do anyway...

Also, if you explain to the people when you return it that the problem is very intermittent, and that it can take several days for the issues to arise, they should test the card thoroughly over the course of a few days to check for the faults you are experiencing...

::edit::

Also, like the others have suggested, it would be worth testing the card out on another PC to make sure it is the card that is at fault and not something else.

well. its made by gigabyte xD does anyone know if they have a UK base? i dont fancy sending it to taiwan or something, haha. yeah. ill try it in my m8es pc tmorrow night before i do anything and ill have a word with OCUK if its still faulty in his pc. Thanks

Anyone from OcUK care to break the silence ? Fatboy, jedi etc etc...

I think, that OcUK do have in their possession an actual 58xx card for valuation.

Why doesn't the OP:

  • Use a webnote
  • Submit a request for an RMA
  • Give their customer services department a call...

It really is that simple.

Alternatives could be overheating card because of dust build-up... or it could be futzd.

ahh. it would be amazing to send mine away and receive a 5870 x2 back. haha. one can dream!! but yeah, it seems to be fine tonight after 3 loops of vantage on extreme and an hour playing prototype. haha. will have to see if its ok in the morning!

ive tryed a webnote the other week. they told me to run memtest86. so i did and it came up fine, ive yet to send another webnote. but i think ill give them a call. would be easier and faster than webnote! card is defo not overheating, 30oC idle and 45oC under 100% load and what u mean "futzd"?

It seems that rumors were true, and ATI's partners are being selected and validated to manufacture the 4890X2 which means that the 4890X2 will be exclusive for only a few of ATI's partners, the most obvious being Sapphire as it is largest supplier of ATI-based video cards in the world. The 4890X2 will come in two flavours, 2GB and 4GB, which should be enough for any gamer. Currently the reigning champion is the GTX 295, but as reviews have shown, two 4890's in CrossFire beat the GTX 295 in every test, so the 4890X2 should be no exception! The specifications have yet to be released, but the memory is suspected to be clocked at 1000MHz, let us all hope that this is true and that the rest of the specifications are not too different from two 4890's. Stay tuned for more information later on in the month.

Ok guys, will ask one of the lads what is happening with them. Seems odd but at a guess I'm wondering if ATi are just clearing the channel to make way for the new series (just seems a little early to me though)
