Hi,

I want to test some memory so I've downloaded a bootable ISO and burnt that, what tests should I use though?

Thanks

morning :)

if its just memtest86 then just boot it up, the blue screen will come up and start testing instantly, let it do a pass or two and ya done :)

As Sasso has already stated it's a bootable ISO so will start its box of tricks once booted.

The only thing i would add is if you suspect your memory to be flaky i would let it do a few passes - perhaps let in run for a few hrs.

Memory is coniving stuff and if it can find a way to hide a fault it will usually try. If you run memtest for a few hrs (overnight ideally) if it's got a fault it should, in theory, give it up with a few hrs of testing.

Good luck.

Is Memtest86 still the right tool to test DDR2 memory?

It's the right tool, as to whether it's the best tool is probably open to debate.

It's my preferred weapon of choice, used along side other apps, when testing for suspected memory instabilty.

I cant remember why but I always just run loops of test selection 5. If I have a dodgy stick that seems to always find it and its a heck of a lot quicker than running through all the tests (especially when you're testing a system with a large amount of RAM!)

Test #5 is a fairly good indicator of stability but I always follow that up with a several full loops for complete piece of mind!

I think the fetish for test #5 comes from the Tech Support guys like Yellowbeard and Big Toe from Corsair and OCZ! :p
