Car scrappage scheme

pfft we have Nissan GT-R's and stuff at non RR meets these days ;)

That said, better your own Focus than somebody elses Mercedes eh? ;)

I have yet to hear of anyone using this scheme to buy what I consider a 'decent' car, it's all at the bottom/lower-medium end of the market for the most part, in-fact as has been said, some of the cars being scrapped I would consider better than the shiny plastic high-street decorations with sewing machine engines that are replacing them, it makes me sad in a strange sort of way. How many perfectly good cars have been taken out of service to increase this plague of hateful little roller-skates that are littering our streets from north to south, east to west :(

I admit to being a bit of a car snob, but I stand by my statements, most of these new scrappage scheme cars (that I have seen at least) are horrible nasty little plastic shopping trolleys which are hateful in just about every way if you love cars and motoring.

The Golf and Passat accepted of course.

This is what gets on my nerves about it too. Just reading some of the stuff in here - a new Hyundai i10? Seriously? People should be banned from buying cars unless they can pass a test.

The first thing I did when I started looking was print out a list of manufacturers. And tick the soulless dishwashers off.

I'd prefer the latter to be honest:p

I think Shad is perfectly ok with his new Hotpoint purchase.....considering all other times he can blat around in his Caterham:D

I would, but I feel it's a bit of a wasted opportunity to take such a car out only to spend a day watching people put Astras and Focii on a pair of rollers:p Organise a Bruntingthorpe meet and now we're talking:)

So basically you think you're above all of us because you get to drive Daddy's Mercedes, maybe, when he lets you. Basically.

That is EXACTLY what I think, yes. Well done. I just wouldn't feel comfortable putting it next to an old crappy Ford with a dodgy grill. Father would not be too pleased.

edit: I've got an idea, i'll bring Godfrey and the hounds along too, that will keep you away ***** scum.

I can't quite work out if you're being sarcastic or not, it almost seems as if you're being serious

But my Daddy drives a Beluga Black Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

Well he will either Friday, Saturday or Monday when he takes delivery of it. It's not new, it's a '07 plate, and it's done a positively massive 12k miles.

I must confess, it cost a lot less than £100k though. And no older cars were butchered in the process, so far as I am aware.

/slings epeen over shoulder and struts off.

My Daddy owns four cars!!!!111 He worked hard for them but I'll just talk about them loads and loads even if people don't care to enlarge my e-peen. I may even get to drive one, one day lolol.

Anyway, if you feel that you're too good to bring your dad's car along, then it's your loss really.

He should have bought new so he could use the scrappage scheme damnit!

So other than polishing Fox's shoes all day you really love to come to your own wonderful conclusions don't you?:p

If it was somewhere like brunters where I could stretch the cars legs then yes it would be worth while, otherwise for a normal motors meet i'd much prefer to bring my own car.

Perhaps, but he saved £40k by buying a 2 year old car and it's absolutely immaculate, you really couldn't tell that it isn't new. Apparently (according to the dealer) the former owner had it as part of a collection, he actually used to employ a guy to wash, wax and generally look after his cars every week ...how's that for one careful owner :D

Well the thought of saving £2k might be attractive, but when you can save £40k by buying a slightly used example (not that you could tell) ....it makes it all seem a bit, 'expensive' really. Wasting money isn't generally the best road to riches. Still, if you're rich enough, maybe it's inconsequential.

Indeed, buying such a car brand new is crazy really, to be honest any car over £100k will lose £10k as soon as you drive off in one and at 12k miles it will still have the new car smell:) What colour interior?

Oh I just changed my reply a bit, I thought I sounded a bit like I was lecturing before (I'm told that's something I do often, so I try to be careful), anyway, no matter. It's Portland Hide inside.

In the same way that you do. I'm only going on what's presented on the forum and the way you come across.

No worries, I wish you all the best with your judgments:)

Moeks, i'd still love to see pics even if you don't post a thread, my email is in trust.

Yea I can get you some pictures, I don't think I will post a thread about it though, I just don't relish the reaction I would probably get.

On the other hand, i'm glad that some cars are being remove from our roads...
