Don't be stupid taking that TV to uni with you. Leave it at home where it's safe. Even if it doesn't get stolen, it could easily be broken when drunk idiots barge into your room after a night out. A night out that you should really have been on since its your first year of uni, rather than sitting in watching TV.... Just take a small crap one.
Where are you from? You can have my 26" Sony Widescreen for £50. Its not HD, its not LCD, its a normal TV. All you'll need. Granted that will take up most of the space on your desk too but if you want a tv just take one you wouldn't care about breaking.

No not at all. I have always had a vaild Tv License since 1995. I just think it is a waste of money when I also pay for Sky. I hate HAVING to pay for something if I don't want to use it. I can use my TV for a lot of channels that BBC don't have control over. Yet I have to pay them.

Whilst I did not purchase one for my halls last year, my dad made a very important point recently. We are truly, truly lucky to have the BBC in this country. BBC radio (especially 4) and the BBC channels are the best in the world and they are ad free for our pleasure. It is our responsibility to keep it that way. (no, lets not have a debate about the huge salaries).
However..........Charging students for every room and not on a per flat basis is extremely unfair so I suggest you rebel in the first year, but make sure to buy one in future years.

You do use what you pay for. It's a TV licence, and you watch TV. What channels you watch is irrelevant.

Amongst other things. It's a tax like any other, it doesn't matter if you don't use a local school, you'll still pay for it.

Just use your laptop to watch stuff online. Never anything on anyways. I got my collar felt by them back in 88. I didnt even own a tv while at uni and i gave them my nam,e but didnt let them in. Sure enough a few days later i got a nasty letter off them. They are as bad as nazi's. Dont ever give them a name or let them in.
