15½ hour shifts

And that's one thing which is wrong with people today (*I sound so old*). You should do what ever work you can find. If you can find a "decent" job then fine. If you can't you should take what ever and not even be prompted to do so.
That's absolute rubbish, you should get a decent wage for the effort/time you have to give up. 62 Hours of work a week, especially taking your nights from you, for £7 an hour is not decent, and if no one takes the job the employer will be forced to offer a better package. I'd rather someone claimed benefits with the chance of getting a fair job than be raped by their employer because you think they should take whatever work they can.

You'd rather pay for someone to not work than encourage them to work? It's that sort of attitude that has caused such laziness in this country.

I wouldn't work 15 hour shifts for £7 an hour, but only because I could get better, if I couldn't, I'd take the job, just as I have done in the past, because I'd much rather pay my way than scrounge from others.

Its a job, it pays, its above minimum wage, keeps a person from falling into a possible depressed state and keeps you motivated into finding a more better suited job.

I have done 14hr shifts 5 on and 2 off before all this working time directive stuff and although everyday I hated doing it, I just thought of the above and it kept me going. It may help you find a job quicker as future job interviews will see that your willing to do what it takes to keep a roof on your head.

Dedication is what you need, if you wanna be a ................!!! :)

No, I'd rather pay them not to work than encourage employers to take advantage of their need and pay a poor wage, that's not the same thing as you implied. If people have no alternative than to take whatever work they can find to support themselves/their family they are liable to be exploited. Look to the US to see what happens to people there.
I do think people should work wherever possible, but that work should be fairly compensated, in this particular instance I don't believe it is fair.

£7 per hour is pretty bottom rate for night shift work. By comparison Im on £10.36 hour and we have had a pay freeze this year due to credit crunch and im only a Key Op in a food production factory.

No you talk rubbish.
£7 is not bad and more than enough to live on.
It's not a skilled job and it certainly isn't hard work. You can expect all jobs to be well paid.

And very very few people should be able to claim.

I wonder if you have turned down rubbish jobs and claimed.

But I bet the job is semi skilled or manual work.
Not sitting around unsuprvised pretty much doing what ever you want.

No. I already work 12 hours a day and it's a pain.

My rota is a bit better though:

4 Nights/3 Off/3 Days/1 Off/3 Nights/3 Off/4 Days/7 Off. i'm 1 day from starting that week off too.. we call it Fall-Out Thursday because every **** rings 999 and we all fall out because there isn't enough vehicles to cover jobs :D

don't get me wrong, i'll admit, if i was in the position where i had no choice i'd do it, but i'm at a level now where i can pretty much pick and choose where i want to work (in my area of work / expertise), and there's always work too, so i shouldn't ever be in that situation again.

Sure it's not a skilled job, but it's very unsociable hours and a lot of them, I don't expect it to be well paid, but paid fairly.

You can wonder all you like but I've never claimed any benefits.

i did a 14 hour security night shift on minimum wage once. take notice of the once

nah it wasnt that bad an i would do it again. especially at the moment where ive got no full time job and am cash strapped

You mean you haven't taken advantage of the epic laptop scheme?

@OP, I wouldn't work those hours for that cash, maybe take the job for now and use the days off to find/train for a better job.

15 hrs of online game play, 1/2 hr of walking the grounds checking doors and windows AND GETTING PAID FOR IT

Result :D

unless I have got this wrong there isn't 11 hours between shifts so that wouild be illegal

I mentioned this also. It has to be 3 x 15.

which is the same as 4x12, and it is still in 4 days, its just the 3 days off that sucks. Would expect 4 off.

I'd not do that, that's a completely inadequate rest break between shifts, meant to be 11 hours minimum. I couldn't actually function with that little rest.

How many hours are you being paid for?
it does appear you would exceed the 8 hours average.

Edit - NVM neither the 8hour average or 11 hours between shift applies to security sector.
