15½ hour shifts

 to you too

What don't you agree with?

Just wondering how much you'd have to be paid to do that or indeed to get out of bed.

A job is a job, consider yourself very lucky to have one in the current climate.

Highest unemployment for a long time right now.

That nets him the best part of £400 pounds a week, not too bad, although as pointed out it is very long hours.

Asda pay £1.50 an hour more than that for stacking shelves at night. The wage isn't very good for night rate at all.

However if it was me, yes I would probably do it aslong as I had something to entertain me ie something with a net connection

Like I said, I would do it , but only out of desperation, not sure what your point is?

Are you telling me you would do a **** job for little money if you didn't need to?

Depending on what's involved i'd possibly consider it if I were looking for a job and nothing else came up

I would however aim to do some sort of distance learning course or similar when not actively on rounds etc ;) (that way you're getting paid to improve your ability to get a better paid, more sociable job).

I work 4 on, 4 off, 12 hour shifts, it is about the same hours as a 9-5.

I also get 25% extra which is very generous.

The lack of extra money isn't too bad, mine is a technical job so why work nights when I can work 9-5 for the same money? But for a security guard it is kind of expected.

But 4 on 3 off and 15 hours shifts sounds like a joke to me. I get 4 days off and do 12 hour shifts!!!!

Remember you need 1 day off after doing nights to recover.

You will either be working or asleep when you are ON with those hours and will still only get 2 days off because the first day you will be asleep.

when I am on nights 12 hours off is bad enough, 50 mins there, 50 mins back, leaves 10 to sleep and eat, You are going to be getting like 6 if this is 4 shifts in 4 days, are you sure it isn't 3 15 hour shifts? that would be more relaistic and possibly actually legal.

Unless it is better money then don't do it.

My new job is 12 to 14 hour shifts.

HOWEVER if I pulled a week of 14 hour days, that would see me on over £600 for the week.

Nope wouldn't do that for less than £15/h to be quite frank... and I'd prolly want 4 on 4 off as well.

And that's one thing which is wrong with people today (*I sound so old*). You should do what ever work you can find. If you can find a "decent" job then fine. If you can't you should take what ever and not even be prompted to do so.

£7 an hour is good pay? I get £6.50 for a office job while at home for the summer from uni, i wouldnt say its good pay. Only looks decent because its 70 hours a week! and no i wouldnt do that job.

You would be suprised the amount of people who are on minimum wage.

All its done is drag everyone down to a certian level.

Yes, but as has been said not for those wages.

"North West wages" is a load of crap. Sure houses are cheaper, but what else? It's not like you get a discount on holidays and cars.

Well it's not really 4 on 3 off because you finish your last night at 8.30am and will need to waste most of your first day off with a few hours sleep and then sleep again at night to get back into a day routine.

Unless you can actually get a good 5 hours on that last night shift your only really getting 2 days off.

I'd want 4x4 for that money.

Indeed.

Especially considering we have the a very high unemployment at the minute.

To an extent you would be suprised.

Second hand car prices are very different north to south.
As are most things, even fish and chips, which like football pitches and Big Ben, is an internationaly accepted unit of measurement, in this case the north south divide.

yup ide do it, it's better than JSA, so it'd keep me ticking over till something better turned up.

Would any of you guys work a 15½ shift?

recently got myself a job as a security guard and there will be a new opening soon for a corperate building.
basicaly sitting at the main desk at reception.

the hours would be 5:30pm to 8:30am the next morning.
4 days on and 3 days off.
£7 per hour (North West wages) = £378 a week.

Im just thinking i may get bored for that long and go mad lol.

PS- the guy who works there now says he has a sleep 12am to 5am :D

i've done similar, it's mind numbingly boring, but unsupervised, so can take a DS/PSP/laptop etc,

that and a portable dvd player is your friend ;)

Take the job for now and look for something else whilst working.

You get 3 days off a week so gives scope to organise interviews etc without it affecting the job. :)

15.5 hours sitting at a desk isnt too bad, if you was doing hard physical work then it would be a bit of a killer. I do a 4 on 4 off 14 hr shift and love it, 4 days strait work 4 days my time.. :)
