hey chaps, just booked a flight to germany, then flying on to Bratislava, was only 20 euro and had a week spare so thought what the heck,,,,,

now not booked any accommodation or a flight home so advise welcome!

so for those who have travelled, why is the airport called Vienna ? (according to ryanair) i presume Vienna is very close judging by the map, and has anyone stayed and can recommend a hostel?

Vienna is a city in Austria ;), which is extremely close to Bratislava - there is a local train (S-bahn) that goes between the two cities. I've been there and had a great laugh, it was very grey and communist but a Slovakian colleage of mine took me to a University party which was having a Beatles night, of course suddenly being British was a huge bonus on the female front.

I went in about 2001 so it may have changed quite a bit now, they already had a Tesco back then. :D

dude i know where Vienna is!! :D - when i booked on Ryanair is says 'Bratislava, Vienna' just wondered if they shared an airport?

Yah been there a few time, I did not like it much but if you have a week to spend take the bus down to Vienna for a day or 2 and Brno for a day.

Prague is not too far also, you can take a Euro City train which should not cost much at all, www.vlak.cz

I've been there loads of times, but sadly every time it's just been airport -> bus -> train to get to the east of the country. I've never seen the city centre, but it's supposed to be lovely.

The Brits have a bit of a bad reputation out there now, due to all the stag parties going there. But if you're on your own and not blind drunk and wearing an England football shirt - you should be fine. :)

I must have a look around the city next time I'm passing through. :)

They don't 'share' an airport, it's just Ryanair's usual stretching the truth a bit. However it's a lot nearer than some Ryanair airports to their supposed destination.

Vienna is a great city, I spent a few good weeks working there and really enjoyed the nightlife.

Been to Bratislava many times. I stay in the Hotel Devin which used to be the only 5 star hotel in the city, has that iron curtain feel to it and isn't 5 star by our standards.
It's right on the river and a stones throw from the main market square. About €90 a night.

Anyway, you say you want a hostel.

If you walk up through the old streets just off from the main square you can find some great little bars & restuarants, it's all cobbled streets and lanterns, like the film Hostel!

There's one bar just next to this gateway underneath a clock tower where they have a live band and dancing and I have to say, the atmosphere was immense and not something I've found before. You can write on the walls in there!

No joke, I was in there, reading the writing, all the sudden I read in large print "all of your bases are belong to us" HAHAH.

That would be the KGB Bar I guess...... was there in 2006. Sorry for the blurry shots, I'd had a few by this point:

Slovakian girls are hot but I would never go back to Bratislava willingly again in my life. I'm sure you will find something to amuse yourself.

Are you looking for a hostel or a hotel? Are you into to the tourist type tours/museums/history or what?

I've been. There we're lots of bars, two casinos and a rather large river. We stayed in a hostel, but I can remember the name. It was very close to the local Tesco (yes, they have Tesco :()

Yep was there in January, nice place to be honest :)
Some nice restaurants (Papparazi was quite nice, also a small pizzeria on the way to the castle... the UFO restaurant is a bit expensive though).

Can't really advise on hostels, I rented an apartment while I was there.

I think that's the hostel I stayed in, very basic, access is via a muddy/gravelly path and the view out of the windows looks like something out of a WW2 film :D

Very cheap and perfectly warm/clean though.

EDIT
Found the invoice!
