Living near Canary Wharf?

cymatty, in my opinion you're crazy to consider a 1hr commute but not a house share. I share my place with one other and it's only a good thing - cheaper rent, bills in half, we share cooking and cleaning, good company... there simply isn't a downside. Professional shares are nothing like student shares if that's what you’re worried about.

Get in touch with theDude - his set up sounds good.

No I understand what you are saying about flat shares and can see the benefits, but I have a girlfriend who will probably want to come down quite often and friends etc that may pop down and I would rather do it in my own place.:)

Regarding the commute my longest commute was 1hr 40 mins each way currently it takes between 1hr and 1hr 20, so it does not really bother me.

The property would have to be cheaper though to include travel costs. :)

They were taking the mick, however, I actually love brixton, so much life, so much culture, fantastic fish and fruit/veg market. Parts of Brixton are really nice and up and coming, there is a less nice area but that's miles away from Brixton itself though people still call it Brixton.

is this 900pm with bills or without?

Without, however would need to include tube to work.

I thought they were, but couldnt be rude about a subject I knew so little about. :o

900 without bills is do-able but royal aresenal is nasty!

your coming to london for 6 months, why not enjoy it, make some friends, go out lots. SE18 is a pain to get to, to CW the DLR is epically slow and driving in would suck as the tunnels/ferry are busy in the mornings and evening, plus parking in CW is expensive budget about £15 a day. (i used to drive to the west india quay car park daily)

I cycle to the city from mudchute which takes me 25minutes, I love it, no fares, no arm pits. I walk to CW for cinema/bars and the same for greenwhich. i dont see the point in coming to london to live in a area miles away which would be the same as living in any regular lame town, be closer to the action and enjoy it!

I like brixton, always had good nights out there, wouldnt want to live there though. Lest ye forget CW has also been attacked with bombs, hence the large security presense.

Yup. :)

As opposed to the tube/bus bombings there were in other parts of London a few years ago? :/

Yes I remeber those also, I was just saying what I remebered about Brixton and as people are sayings its a dump I will avoid it.

Cant really escape the threat of terrorism in London especially working in Canada Square. :)

There's a lot of new housing/flats in Canada Water, may well be possible to get a short term lease there. It's reasonably nice, and just a short hop on the tube to Canary Wharf.

Greenwich wouldn't be such a bad choice as you can get to CW via the DLR.

Limehouse maybe?

I live near Greenwich, (not far from Woolwich) but it would mean me getting the overground to Greenwich and then getting the DLR to CW.

Lewisham? Has DLR too.

There are 'nice' places in Deptford and New Cross, but you have to find them ;) all close to DLR.

So you are reccomending looking around Canary Wharf and Greenwhich then?
