afternoon.

right.. i'm trying to backup my ps3 so i can upgrade from 80gb to 320gb. i've read the ps3 faq thread on how to upgrade the ps3 hdd and it says i need an external hdd which is formatted to fat32. i've managed to find 3 external hdd's which are all 250gb but when i try format them to fat32, the only formats available are ntfs and exfat..

will the ps3 read exfat? what do i do?

No. You are using Windows which does not let you format FAT32 dirves over a certain size (32GB?).

Use any third party utility to format the drives to FAT32 and you will be fine.

I am 99% sure I have used this before: http://www.compuapps.com/download/Swissknife/swissknife.htm on XP.

OH!
It might be an idea to download the latest firmware from the PS website, when I upgraded my 80GB to a 320GB it required me to have the firmware on a memory stick (i'm sure a burnt disc would work as well).
I've no idea why it did this, I know it's happened to others, but it doesn't happen to everybody. *shrugs*

Better safe than sorry.

This is a good idea as this also happened to me when I upgraded my 40Gb to a 320Gb.

ha, a shame i only just read this!! when i first switched the hdd's around, it wouldn't show the reformat option! just the "reconnect controller, restart ps3? and locate update option".. i had a quick google and figured it out but i was quite stomped at first..

all sorted now.. - not sure what stuff i need to re-download from the psn store as it looks like it's backed up everything..

cheers guys :)
