AMD Phenom II X4 965 Reviews

Thanks for those - some fascinating reads - as always it seems to be a good price vs performance debate, certainly opens up more options for my next build :)

This looks like a final stab at making a high-end CPU with this arch - it's got a 140W TDP! When's brand new stuff due from AMD - 2011?

after reading a few of those reviews i think i'll buy a 955BE for my next build in a few weeks, the higher TDP has put me off and they dont seem to overclock any better than the 955

So there as much as the 920 Do Steppings, but still just slightly worse performance on benchs?? I don't see a place for this then, might aswell just get the 955BE for £50-60 less if you have your heart set on AMD over Intel

disappointing and again still hasn't left me regretting spending a lot on i7. the fact that a 3.8 oc on the 965 ties loses and slightly taking a small win on i7 920 stock in some benchmarks leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

its just a 955 with a higher stock clock and no better overclocking potential either. However a 955 at its price and the fact it will probably drop a little is still a great bang for buck for gamers on budget.

If i5 uses the same dies as i7 just under clocked with less cores/equal cores. AMD is going to be in trouble as i5 will probably beat amd's at roughly same price range.

not to mention amd is planning to use the same dies through 2010.

From what I've read the P55 Chipset uses about 30W less power than X58 & the performance is virtually the same around 1 or 2 fps difference, will be cheap as a AMD rig depending on the board you purchase.

Also will have a choice of purchasing a CPU with hyper threading or not.

Kinda gutting for i7 core people who spent all that dosh for same performance, it always happens 975X>>P965, X38/X48>>P45 & now X58>>P55 it's a waste of money buying the high end chipsets for the sake of waiting 6 months.

well i cant be bothered to read all that lot, i'll go by what you guys have posted in..........so it looks like i was right all along, it's a tweeked 955.

good, get a 955 instead, but not yet; wait till prices drop further.

Having seen the results, it is fair to say that the new chip is nothing more than just a slight increase on the stock clock.

It's is not a good decision to upgrade from 955BE to 965. You can get better performance and less power consumption simply by clocking up the 955BE slightly and saving yourself £60; which you can allocate elsewhere as upgrade.

The place is for stock speed which most people run.

yea :(

the big upgrade from AMD is in 1 to 2 years time......... ( bulldozer/fusion)

Can easily get the Phenom II X4 955 BE to 3.4GHz stable on stock volts i.e. 1.325v just by upping the CPU/NB Vid from 1.1v to 1.2v well on the Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P anyway.

uuumm........... but i'll need to remember this next june! :D

Good choice for the monitor Nelly. I'm also a proud owner of the, now discontinued, NEC 24WMGX3 24" TFT. It's great. I'm well chuffed with it :)

Nope, they're planning on releasing Phenom II Quads with stock frequencies all the way up to 4GHz. As for the 'Bulldozer/Fusion' chip, that's due according to an AMD rep 'Not Anytime Soon'.
