Why do they have no cars in stock?

I went to order a Scirocco TDI 170ps GT DSG only to be told that the factory is closed, they are taking no more orders until November/December for delivery times of possibly March!!! There is not one single Scirocco in stock anywhere in the country that isnt one of the 5 maximum-spec 2.0 TFSI models they have (which are out of budget by some considerable margin).

Its a similar story with the TT, availability is (very) low at the moment, pushing prices up through the roof.

So, what is the VAG-restricted company car driver to do? Golf GTI/D is within reach but again, availability is impossible unless you are willing to fork out for a massively specced car.

Really frustrated with the stock shortages at the moment :(

Yep I know many folk who have found this, if the car is in stock then its with you next day, if its a special order from Krautland, then you will be waiting a while.

In the past VW were happy to send half filled cargo ships, now with the current market situation they will only send a ship packed to the rafters with cars, thats what we have been told anyway.Thankfully none of the VW's appealed to me, ive orderd an Accord which is coming from china in 2 weeks.

erk. I just put an order in for a GTD. Guess it won't be good news around availability then!

Retail stock is slightly different for Golf compared to Scirocco, but depending on spec you might find your wait is 12 weeks or more.

Ste - VW themselves I think? I was on the phone to VW direct today about the situation in any case.

I was told the same by my local dealer about the Scirocco. The factory closed for a couple of weeks while they were setting up for the 2010 MY, and they have also reduced production for some reason, meaning the first available slot was week 47!!

They lower production output so they dont have fields of cars they need to end up pre-registering

This.

We've always bought brand new cars (sorry Fox!) but have never bought one from stock; they've always been built-to-order.

EDIT: Thats our Family, Mum, Fun, and Company Cars. My Saxo VTR was obviously not brand new!

VW seem to have dropped the ball with the Scirocco - they have priced it under the Golf GTi to create demand, but reduced supply making them scarce. It only appears to be the plant in Portugal that's affected.
Scirocco was on my list of possibilities for my next car, but with VW being silly with supply I'll probably look elsewhere.

Back in June they racked back production to only 300/day. People currently ordering are being told their scirocco won't go in to production until week 47 (mid Nov). Normally it's only 4 weeks or so to delivery so it's not clear yet what happens between then and the proposed deliveries of March for those orders.

I ordered an A5 in mid-July, expected delivery is the first week in December. Not sure on the exact delay, but it means used prices are very high and you won't get much discount on a new car.
