i7 920 @ 3.80GHz bundle not stable?

Just wondering but which way is your HS fan blowing? I'm using a Antec 902 case. I've got the HS fan blowing towards the top of the case where the 200mm fan sits.

I always thought that it was best to have your HSF fitted with it pushing air through the sink towards the fan on the back of the case??

Wow lots of threads about this stuff :)

I get 42-48 idle and 82-88 fully loaded. Thats normally (according to what ive read and OcUK support). But 100 is crazy!!!

Those temps seem ok to me
I know its most probably not but have you tried to turn your heatsink 90 degrees to see if that might be the problem ...... just hoping it might be that

The temps are about 25 degrees too high, and it is not possible to turn the heatsink 90 degrees

If I remember correctly I couldn't have the HS pointing to the back of the case. Only choice was pointing either up of down. So I chose Up for obvious reasons.

Ocers are posting out a tube of AS5, so I will test my temps once the curring has settled.

Zavoc - What's your fan speed reading i.e. RPM figure just wondering if the fan is a problem

You can have the Noctua pointing back to front, or up and down. However, its all to do with the placement of the retaining bracket on the back of the mobo.

If you have it going up/down, take the heatsink off, undo the retaining bracket and rotate that 90 degrees. You'll then find out that the heatsink will fit going front to back.

Also be very stingy with the paste. First time I put my heatsink on it hit 100C. I cleaned it up, used a lot less paste and it dropped 20 odd C under load.

All,

Just realised the state of this system I brought and true is Overclockers hs utterly screwed my order up.

I've order shed loads from Ocers but this is the first time they screwed up badly.

I didn't get the AS% which I paid for, this was correct ASAP by Ocer this thx.

However I went to use the AS5 this evening and notice the HS was different to everyone else on here. Turns out they send me a Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775/LGA1366)

Instead of Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366)

I've just webnote them to get this fix ASAP.

In the past I've never had top query their deliveries cos it's been first class for many years, unti now.

Based on the current setup, Stock HS paste and using a Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir I'm getting idle temps of 44 degrees. Just wondering with the correct stuff what the idle temps will be, any ideas???

Zavoc - You have the Noctua right???

It explains why my fans can only point either up or down

Actually this bundle originally came with the TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler as i bought it and got that. Ive just checked their offer though and its changed as you say to the Noctua one.

I wouldnt be concerned with the Fenrir though, its a good HS.

But with this bundle i am able to fit that HS in my case pointing any way i want. Ive pointed it up so heat blows to by top rear exhaust fans but before that i tried it pointing out the back - which didnt do as much for me.

The difference here is the has of the Fenrir. As the heatpipes have direct contact with the cpu. There can be air gaps between the dsides of the pipes and the base of the HSF.
Take off the Fenrir, and clean out the old paste. Then re-apply to the base of the HSF using a credit card to work it ino the gaps between the pipes and the base. Then re-seat.

The Fenrir is a good cooler but can be finicky to seat. There are lot of threads here about the best method.
OT: I have the 3.8 Bundle with the Noctua, I'm getting 44-80 as well.

When did you get this bundle?

As dlthorpe stated already, this bundles used to come with the Titan Fenrir HSF, it has only been recently that they started shipping them with the Noctua's..

Also, you can mount the Fenrir with the fans facing the way that I mentioned, you need to raise the fan slightly up the heatsink to make room for your RAM.. I remember reading this on these forums a while ago...

Also, your idle temps are perfectly normal mate.. I have a TRUE with 2 fans in push/pull, and my idle temps are 48c on the hottest core, and 88c under load...

I can't see them changing your HSF for the Noctua though, but you should get your AS5...

Thanks guys.

I didn't realise that they changed the bundle. I logged onto the account and then check my previous orders. Clicked on the bundle and it showed the Noctua, so I assumed that was the HS I was to get. I guess this is a fault with Ocers ordering system and previous orders, it doesn't show was what brought at the time of purchase once they have done an update.

I'll try the tips kindly given above and will post the results soon.

Thanks guys.

Yep that's true, they used to come with Titan Fenrir, I got mine with Noctua NH-U12P

Oh and my temps are below 50 somehow! (190x20=3800mhz)
Should be perfect with AS5...
