Dell PSUs - are they still a non-standard fit ?

Hope this is the right section of the forum to ask this

Last time i was into this , Dells had theor own PSU connection
as in how the PSU lead plugs into the motherboard
but you could get an adapter (i think but it was years ago)

guess they could also be physically different but not sure on that
as it may be a case issue as well

on a new or nearly new dell pc , is this still so or are they industry standard now ?

All the Vostro's I've had use standard ATX fittings/PSUs. Don't know about Inspirons.

I just fitted one this morning, it was a standard atx.
Wouldn't expect them to be different, as it would be a big case of re-inventing the wheel.

Edit: Try auction site, lookup a psu, see what spec it has...

I recently installed a new PSU on a dell XPS420. It was an atx and it fits perfectly, despite being a fair bit smaller than the original PSU.

I would watch out, aparently Dell wire their ATX differently, can cause problems.

I doubt it. Most of the PSUs in the Dells I've worked with over the past year or so have been LiteOn or Foxconn units. They can't wire ATX differently, if they do it isn't ATX. That's why we have standards in the first place.
