Living near Canary Wharf?

Awesome location!! right next to the Pepper Saint ONTIOD which is a cool pub and you can find me there most nights, they do great burgers and chips! Also a nicer bar/restraunt there too.

i live just on the other side of the docks there.

Ah seems a good find, especially with bills included. :D

Canary Wharf has relatively high council tax. I was actually outpriced out of that area 5 years ago, it became *much* cheaper to pay mortgage on house in Kent than rent 2 bedroom flat round Westferry Rd and pay all the bills, fight for parking space every day etc etc.

Anyway - you'll easily find plenty of places to rent for less than £200 in the area - Mudchute is actually pretty great, there are literally tons of flats in Telegraph Place area, it was one massive buy to let area back in the day. The four towers in The Quarterdeck are excellent for rental - look very seventies, but fantastically quiet, sound insulated, very secure, prices are cheap and if you pick 4th floor and above you'll get river or Canary Wharf views. Going further north, Poplar/All Saints/Westferry triangle is cheap and is getting better and better. Avoid Balfron Towers in All Saints - loads of flats to rent cheap (even split level appartaments), but it's a grim, grim place, and it's one of the very few 1970ies estates to have grade listing, so no one can even paint, fix or renovate stuff properly because it's "historical or cultural significance".

Right I've mentioned this before - move to Canning Town. Especially since you want to move near Canary Wharf. Infact, from Canning Town you can see Canary Wharf. It's:
- Two stops from Canary Wharf using Jubilee Line, or a few more using the DLR
- It's a 10 minute cycle commute
- It's a 20 - 30 minute walk depending on how fast you walk

Furthermore:
- It used to be run down. This means the rent rates are low. Since the new developments have sprung up (opposite Canning Town station) the area is a goldmine for people looking to buy/rent and want Docklands style apartments but at a cheap rate.
- Local ammunities are great. You will find everything you need.
- Great transport links. Nearby A406, A13, M11, trains, C2C from West Ham, you can literally go anywhere from here using public transport. And the buses are excellent since a major bus termininus is located in Canning Town.

I live in Canning Town, and can honestly say in a few years time it will be a part of London everyone will be talking about :)

Hi,

Looking at moving to London soon.

What is Battersea like? There are some decent flats there :)

Got around £1250 to spend on my current salary, but could be more if I change roles... Looking for a 2 bed place really.

Battersea - there are a few nice new developments on the river, unfortunately a PITA in terms of public transport, you have Clapham Junction nearby but in terms of tube stops there is (AFAIK) nothing really close by.

Depends where you're working really :)

OP, good luck with the placement app etc, Canary Wharf is good fun, come down Limehouse way one day and visit the Grapes or the Narrow, both nice pubs - in fact do the walk all the way into the Tower of London and go see the Prospect of Whitby, the Captain Kidd etc, all nice pubs overlooking the Thames.

*edit*
Canary Wharf is great for rental at the moment, especially if you are able to knock them down on rent - i.e. this is the view from my flat:

2-bed, 2-bath (one en-suite) with front and back balcony - £1,200 a month (between us!!! £600 each)

10-minute walk to Canary Wharf along the river, 20 mins into the City via Fenchurch St. overland :)
