The Official Football Manager 2010 Thread

I'm interested in seeing how much budget they give Sunderland in this years game - last season they only had a budget of only a few million in FM09, even though Keane spent like 50 million or so.
Did Keane do all his spending before the season started? If so it could have been accurate. Keane had £50m or so to spend and spent most of it leaving only a few million left.

Most likely, although doesn't the game normally start well before pre-season friendlies?

Along those lines, Man Utd should have at least £60m remaining for us to spend :D (presuming Fergie really isn't going to sign anyone else)

I hope they have the United youngster stats more accurate this year. Rafael and Fabio were a bit useless, as was Macheda.

They should definitely be better - now we've seen more of them in matches the researcher will have more to go on so will make the appropriate improvements. I'd be surprised if Macheda wasn't given a -9 PA now.

Hmm true that. But the players Keane bought would have been in the Sunderland squad in FM.

Oh yeah, that's true, they normally just take the current squad and shift the take back a month or two, forgot about that. Like FM10 I'd imagine will start in July or so but we'd have Cattermole who we just signed a couple of days ago.

Even if he does hopefully it'll be a star player so even if we lose a bit of cash we should have an excellent player to show for it. :)

They should be. I believe the Manchester United researcher will have done the data for Rafael/Fabio/Macheda as this will be their second season at Utd? Then Rafael/Fabio weren't played by Fluminense much when they signed for Utd so they lost match fitness so they didn't play much.

Yep pretty much what they do.

Yeah. I'd prefer if he did sign someone, Man Utd being stronger in real life is much more important than me having a few mill more to spend in FM!

Yep you're right. He did "fix" Fabio and Rafael in the 9.3 patch after they had awful ratings because they weren't being played before joining Utd, but it's the first major update he'll do for those three so they should have a better base of stats to improve upon.

Exactly. :)

Yeah that was unofficial wasn't it. And even that was before Macheda played some end of season games so hopefully he'll have improved a bit.

I hope they fix the starting transfer budgets at the beginning of the game as well.

It was damn annoying trying to buy players as United at the start of a new game on FM09 with only £2m or so to spend.

You'd have to sell a fair few players to be able to purchase who you wanted.

I like the look of those screenies. Looks like tactics is going to be made simpler as well without those bars which made things far more complicated than they needed to be and were a pretty unrealistic way of dealing with them.

In my opinion of course!

FM 09 was brilliant.

Playing at work = **** all else gets done, I blame if for my lack of organization last year, if I wasn't playing that every second, I'd have been more organized :D

Can't wait for FM 10 :)

FM 10 + Windows 7 = :D:D:D:D

Isn't there an option when setting up a new game to enable transfer budgets? Not sure exactly what it does but it could be worth testing out.

Very tempted to get this when it comes out. Loved FM 05, 06 and 07. Was last years any good?
I think it was. OK there were problems on release date with the activation servers down due to DDoS attacks but it was a pretty good version.

FM 10 + Windows 7 = :D:D:D:D
I've not tried Windows 7 yet, despite having the RC iso here to test, but if Windows 7 is a more efficient OS than Vista and SI really have made FM10 run quicker due to optimising the code then anyone running FM10 on a well powered W7 machine could have a lot of fun. :p

There's a tick box to enable or disable transfers in the first window. If you disable it you get nothing at all, if it's enabled (it is by default) you get a budget based on what the manager would have left after their real life spending. You never get a full budget in the first transfer window.

Ah righty-ho.

Unless you happen to be Mark Hughes. ;)

Think I may purchase myself FM10.

Im still using FM07
 FM07?! Not even FM08? :(

Can I ask why you skipped FM08 and FM09? Were you happy with FM07, which incidentally I think may FM-ers regard as the best in the series so far, or did you think that FM08 and FM09 didn't have enough new features or improvements to justify getting them?

Because I did too much editing of the database for me to change, I was too heavily involved :)

If there is a way to transfer saved games over though I'll be annoyed me not knowing about it :)

I'll definitely get 2010 though, I'll be getting windows 7 and a maybe upgrading my computer so will feel like its the right time to move on into the future of football manager :)

I always play from a league 2 team and work up so It takes me normally ages to go from starting a game to thinking I've done enough.

Indeed there were a lot of problems :(

I bought it through Steam (first FM that I didn't own the box of :() but Steam has been fantastic, updates are applied and I could play the minute the game was released.

I've not tried windows 7, I've herd only good things about it :D
I liked and enjoy Vista, I'm quietly looking forward to windows 7.

I run a quad core, overclocked, a Nvidia 260 (max core thingy) and 4GB ram. Always felt over kill for Warcraft and FM :p

Looking forward to see , like you said, if there is an improvement in speed ect ect under windows 7 :)
