Women's Woe's

Has she actually phoned customer services for support? (150 from an orange handset or 07973100150 from a landline, use the mobile if you can, it's free). There should be no issues with getting a faulty dongle resolved, even if it requires a replacement.

They went to the orange shop where they got the origional deal from.

Get them to call them in the morning (assuming they have access to the PC and dongle to do some fault checking). Warranty replacements for most dongles are handled by CS and a replacement can be delivered within 24 hours if the dongle is diagnosed as faulty.

Tomorrow, after taking my advice, the mother is going to go to the shop and demand a new internet dongle.

The one they have does no longer work.

If they do not give her a new dongle, she has said that she will leave them for breaking their contract.

IE, working internet.

Not forgetting that the dongle she has is only 3 months old, and they want £30 to replace it.

Which isn't going to work, you need to follow the warranty process (which is what I'm trying to advise you of).

The one they have does no longer work.

Hence why she needs to follow the warranty process.

If they do not give her a new dongle, she has said that she will leave them for breaking their contract.

which won't work, section 14 of the network T&Cs will ensure that.

IE, working internet.

Which can be achieved by following the correct support process by contacting customer services, who will arrange for a courier replacement within 24 hours if it is faulty.

Not forgetting that the dongle she has is only 3 months old, and they want £30 to replace it.

I'm not forgetting that, I'm telling you how to get the problem resolved, for minimum hassle and no cost. Trust me, follow the process and avoid the stress and hassle of trying to get the store to do something they aren't supposed to, and do not need to do.

Please do not get me wrong here, i am taking in all of what you are saying, i just thought that anything bought NEW had a 12 months guarentee.

Ergo replacement at no cost.

Ergo why the arguement with the salseman at the store.

Is the internet dongle even broken? She doesn't sound like she's particularly techno-savvy. Perhaps it's an operator error?

I have tried it, Personely.

(Ready for Insults and attacks on ones ability).

A 'salesman' at a store might not have a clue, just take Dolph's advice and she'll have a new dongle in no time. Simples.

I will get her to try this route.

But this is not the right route, Legally.

If it breaks down within the guarenteed period then you are entitled to a replacement.

If i pay for somthing and it breaks down, i don't want to wait 24 hrs for a new one.

I want what the guarentee pays for.

Why don't people read the whole thread?

If they do then they can talk ********.

I've read the whole thread, so I can talk ********.....

I think your daughters' 12 year old friend's mother feels lucky to have got your attention. And you are trying to add some sort of legitimacy to this whole thing by seeking advice here - since you already knew the solution (as you say: to get orange to confirm the contract start date and therefore warranty).

You didn't say 'single-mother' so I cheekily made a comment about the father doing a runner as an extreme solution to the problem.

I'm sorry, if this problem is bigger than it appears on this thread, but to me it's a little amusing. To me, a family that does not have a lot of money (assuming money is tight) but can have sky has got some priorities wrong.

you do realise loads of people go without so they can provide things for there children right? dont be so quick to judge when you dont know the full facts.
just because money is a bit tight doesnt mean they are struggling to pay bills, they might not have much free cash after everything they have budgeted for is paid but it doesnt mean they shouldnt be allowed SKY

I will pass on what i have learned before she goes to the store.

I don't sleep much so i would like opinions from the early risers.

@arknor thank you for some small understanding.

moremoney, what exactly are you here for? You know what you have to do, get Orange to confirm the contract start date. Verify the warranty and rma the thing. You suggested it yourself!

The other options can be more ludicrous:

- get old copies of credit cards/statements.
- hire a private detective.
- traul through a waste landfill to find the lost receipt.
- get the first orange statement.
- call jack bauer.
- call Mr Wolf from pulp fiction.
- heat seeking missiles.
- baracudas.

Failing the above, and if you feel that bad and hopeless, buy another dongle as goodwill for them.

I really don't know what other helpful advice you are gonna get but good luck. Really.

Best wishes.

I am about to ring her, and tell her to ring the people Dolph has suggested.

Any last minute advice for her.
questions she should ask etc.

Technically the retailer is entitled to repair the device first, before you can demand a refund / replacement.

But for the cost of the item its very unlikely they will.

Are you saying that they can refuse to replace the item in question because they only sold it to you.

Anyway, £30 for a usb dongle is a rip off.

Technically they can offer to repair it first, as its older then a month. Your rights allow you to demand a replacement / refund if they were unsuccessful with a repair.

But in real circumstances, Orange won't bother and just replace the device.
