i have about 4TBs of data i need to back up, although im not sure what the best solution is.

im tempted just to fit 2x 2TB hard drive into the two spare spaces i have in my gaming rig, although for the price of these:

i could probably build a cheap computer and fill it with more, smaller, cheaper HDDs.

ive also thought about getting an external caddy that could fit 3 or 4 HDD... but im not so sure.

thanks for any advcie guys.

Something like this?

That case houses 6 HDD's and has 3 5.25" drives aswell, so you can fit up to 9 HDD's in there.

Your 2 x 2tb = £430 ish.

If you get this its more expensive, but its much more expandable in the future...

thats:

Intel Dual Core E5300 (2.6Ghz)

Foxconn BlackOps Intel X48 DDR3 Mobo

3x2GB OCZ Reaper 6GB DDR3 12800 C7

WD Caviar Black 1TB x 4

Antec 300 Case

Not bad for around £500, i tink ill continue playing around with this for a wee while until i finally decide.

That looks good, the only thing is the ram. What you have chose is triple channel ddr3, for i7 processor/motherboards. For yours you need double channel ddr3, any of these
