A friend was sold a BMW 520d with the 'business pack' which should include bluetooth however when he went to collect it, no bluetooth was installed.

The dealer have said this can't be retrofitted and have installed a 3rd party kit.

Is it true that the factory kit can't be installed at the point?

They are lying, presumably because it's a massive job. Get your friend to print out the relevant official BMW retrofit guide and take it along to them:

It will probably be the second link you need as I doubt it has the wires there already. DO NOT accept a 3rd party bluetooth kit, they are nowhere near as integrated with the car's monitor etc.

That's for the 3 Series. He's got the 520d. Is it the same?

Don't want to give it him then get laughed out the dealers for having the wrong info.

No probs. :) They will try and wiggle their way out of it, the parts are very expensive so that's why they have installed a 3rd party kit which will only have cost them 100 quid or something. Book price for a proper BMW retrofit will probably be over 2000ukp.

I've tried looking on the 5 series forum but it's very slow for me so I've given up till later.

If anyone has it or another link I'd be grateful :)

I'd rather have the OEM kit i'd paid for, if they won't do this i'd be either asking for 3/4 of the price of the kit in compensation (making for a nice cheap car) or tell them to shove the car and get a full refund.

How i would act depends if they decide to continue the "we can't fit it" lie, or not.

It's bloody cheeky to sell a car without bluetooth when it's a standard fit on the car. Coupled with extended voice control BT on current BWMs is excellent.

Personally I would have told them to shove it as not fit for purpose.

The car was a pre-registered 09 plate with an 8K discount on the price so he got a good deal.

I'm hoping he doesn't give in, but chances are he will for an easy life :(

Is this bad luck or not, or just poor quality control? I've got a mate and a work colleague, the mate got an '09 320d with the BMW business package and no bluetooth so they put in a parrot, my colleague got a '58 plate 520d with the business pack also and no bluetooth either but as it was a lease car through work he just got a slight monthly discount on it.

Maybe :p I'm going to keep the car for sometime but if you still have yours when I come to sell, I'll give you first dibs on the parts ;)
