**** Official J&W P45D2-ULTRA and -EXTREME Thread ****

That's probably because of UK retailers though?

Possibly, although the two places you have been able to source J&W in the past don't seem that committed to them. I think it would be fine to turn up late to the party with a fast board if there is a reason. That reason can be brand loyalty (think DFI, EVGA), performance (think Foxconn Bloodrage) or price and I think J&W can really only play the pricing card and they've not done it yet.

Id like to see the bios settings, + how this board would run a 45nm quad on high fsb, ive only run 450fsb on the p5q dlx, ive heard the gigabyte board is better again, wouldnt mind seeing how the j&w stacks up against the competition.

The P5Q Deluxe 50% is a lot more expensive (£130 vs. £85) and you'd need to name a Gigabyte board for comparison purposes. I had a P5Q Pro and couldn't really get on with it. One of the truly unique things about J&W boards is that the motherbioard engineers really don't want you to have to mess with the BIOS settings any more than necessary, so from the P35 through the X48 to this P45 board, I have not been able to get a better overclock by tweaking than I have by just leaving 99.9% of all the settings on AUTO.

I do believe that the P5Q's and the GA-P45's will do a higher absolute overclock, but if you want easy overclocking, I do think J&W take a lot of beating. Especially at the price.

The price is outstanding on the j&w, the p5q dlx is somewhat pricey for a p45, also you say that most settings can be left on auto, the p5q can be a very tricky board to overclock on due to the crazy amount of settings, and the fact that auto settings can be very harmful on them, i like the layout on that j&w, sata sockets are very well placed and the heatpipe being all copper which you dont see, even on some higher end boards, at £85.00 it looks like a lot of board for a very good price.

I really don't get the current p45 prices...I mean I bought my p5q deluxe more than a year ago and it cost 115 shipped brand new. Now they are more than that and it's a dying socket...I don't get it :/

Same here, i purchased mine on release and managed to pick it up for £120.00 shipped, a while back i actually seen it rise to £150.00, seems to have gone down now to £130.00, it is a fantastic board though, but i could probably have gotten away with the p5qe as it has the majority of the features of the dlx, but at a signifigantly less price.

I have now found the option in the BIOS to boot slower. It now does a full RAM count then waits 10 seconds to let you press DEL.

I'm thinking of getting one of these boards, I hear they have forums. What is their full name cause putting J&W forums into google gives me links to Jehovas Witness' forums.:D

Everyone says the Asus P5Q is great but I hear it overvolts on auto and there is a thread on xtremesystems where a user is modding bios' because Asus isn't doing it well enough. DFI UT P45-T2RS does not officially support 1600fsb. I could not get a Gigabyte except for the quad core crippled UD3LT with 4 phase power, and read about issues at stock with my own q9550.

Big.Wayne was right I should have moved from LGA755 but now I have to suck it up and buy a 450fsb mobo as my p35-DQ6 is on its last legs due to my o/c attempts.

I have to say those forums don't look too clever.

I'm a huge J&W fan, and I've had nothing but trouble with ASUS RMA's, but the P5Q is the better board.

Why can't you get a Gigabyte?

I have tried the DFI DK P45, Gigabyte EP45C-UD3R, EP45T-UD3P...and I still miss my P5Q Deluxe. It was so easy to clock...every other board I've tried has been finicky when it comes to memory settings. Also the way the gigabyte board recovers from a failed overclock is MOST annoying and is killing my hard drives. I've not tried the J&W but at this point I am pretty much just regretting ever straying from Asus as so far every board of theirs has been superb.

I've been considering any p45 board but since I could not have my first choice of gigabyte non UD3LR version, unavailable in UK now. I was going to go for the biostar TP45-HP until I read about this experience of quad cores:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/display/biostar-tp45hp_10.html#sect0

I think I've come full circle now and will go for the Asus pro or deluxe. Is it a good thing that users are making modded bios' for it on xtremesystems?

What happened to your P5Q deluxe? Die on u? I actually appreciate the way the my p35-dq6 will boot without fail, rebooting twice on power-on is of no concern to me.

no idea which brand it is?

I'm not sure what the query is here? If you're asking who are J&W they are one of the biggest assemblers of motherboards and graphics cards in the world, they just don't sell as J&W outside of Hong Kong and China. If you stare hard enough at the J&W website images you can spot their boards being sold by better known brands in the UK though.

Conclusion on your board

Hey there , what was your final conclusion on this board? for gaming/clocking, are you still using it? I have just been having a look and am quite likeing it! I had made a choice of the Asus p5q deluxe. Then found your thread, The JW-P45D2-ULTRA is currently available for £88.54 online compared to £118.30 for the Asus p5q deluxe. What are the major differences between the two? is the Asus worth the extra ££££ and should i consider the Msi P45 platinum or Maximus II Formula? Cheers James

As the UK's No. 1 J&W Fanboy I'm sure many of you will know that I like J&W Motherboards, so when I discovered a new one was available in the UK I ordered one.

It arrived this morning!

As usual for J&W it came in a nice black box.

The bundle is a bit uninspiring, but then this is the budget P45 from J&W, the Extreme being the top end model (not currently sold in Europe).

The board itself is J&W's usual high standard of build quality.

The SilentCool heatsink is taller than many, but it sits well back from the socket and even bigger coolers like the TRUE and Scythe Mugen don't foul the chipset cooling.

JWBox4.jpg

The SilentCool is a real heatpipe cooler (not just a copper coloured tube) and it's very efficient in initial testing. Note also the DFI style PCIe slot.

The back panel has everything most folks would want, including optical and phono style digital audio, 6 USB ports and the all-important BIOS reset switch. This is an overclockers board!

It is a good motherboard, but ultimately it's not as good as the ASUS as an overclocker.

If you have a good CPU you'll get an extra 0.2-0.4MHz out of it with the P5Q Pro over this. If you just want a good, stable, P45 board then the J&W would do very well indeed.

As much as I love J&W, if you're only buying one motherboard this year, I'd buy the ASUS. It's just the safe bet.
