motherboard tray shorting mobo

Just setup my Gigabyte EX58-UD5 In the tray and it would shut down everytime as soon as I hit the power button.

Took the mobo out and set it on the floor and it would run fine, so that means my tray is shorting the mobo somehow, is there anyway to stop that from happening?

My case is a silverstone TJ-09.

standoffs and spacers? sorry don't know what they are, first time using a case with a tray. - always used to putting mobo in and it boots, first time this has happened to me.

How would the pci cards slot in propelly if he wasnt using standoffs? surely theyd all be offset and not in propelly

Make sure all standoffs are in the correct place, try unplugging all power leads like cd drive, hdd and then all the power swtch, pwr led, hdd led, usb, and others like that n test

They are the little brass screw things

i looked up standoffs and I do have them, in a bag :/ guessing the mobo is mean't to sit on them? and then screw it in?

Love how frequently this question comes up :)

I spend so long checking Ive got exactly the right spacers in place, it can be quite hard to judge when your mb tray is completely covered with holes. Missing one out isn't fatal, putting extra ones in could well be

It doesn't sound like this was your first build so what I am curious about is - if you never used spacers before - how the hell have your previous PCs not blown up :D

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away............some cases were supplied with the stand-offs already fitted, and some cases had 'dimples' that lifted the mobo clear of the mounting plate so you don't need stand-offs. Nowadays we have a larger variety of board sizes and hole positions, so we have to fit our own standoffs.
