You know the ones, if you use your laptop a lot, over time you will get the dark marks on the laptop just below the keyboard and around your mousepad.

Is there any decent way to stop this or restore its original color? its making my laptop look old and shabby when it really isnt that old. Its my works laptop but I use it both in work and at home.

Thanks

is it physical wear making it shiny, and thus dark, or is it dirt?

if it's dirt, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) should clear it off (TEST FIRST) - if it's physical wear, there's nothing you can do :(

Deffo physical wear :( iv only had my works laptop (from Feb 09 brand new) and they already appearing :(

Its only in certain areas, whats that stuff you can buy to cover books? i can remember it from making book and covering them with a film. Sounds stupid but I want to avoid the classic wear marks if possible!

Want my laptop to stay looking good :) Otherwise the MD and my manager will either think iv been battering it or doing far too much work, give me a payrise and a new laptop.

What do you think ???:p

I know what you mean , I was given an old Easynote laptop with silvered coloured plastic below the keyboard and there is black worn areas where the palms and fingers have been resting .Really looks tatty and I wouldn't have bought a laptop in this condition , but the fact I was given it ..........I cannot complain .
I wonder if you can get some of that sticky film , I think it used to be called Fablon .I bought a roll of it from Poundland ..........woodgrain effect a while back . You would be able to cut out a shape to go around areas that might ware .It comes in different colours , clear , woodgrain etc .Just an idea .

Thats the stuff, kind of a bizzarr idea, would it work do you think without making it annoying/look rubbish

If you made some templates for any complicated bits, rounded the corners and got the bubbles out, then yeah should look ok. No different from screen protectors on phones an such. Better than scratches and shiny bits at least.

It should be a simple template really as its only going to be across the laptop palm rest obviously cutting around the touchpad

your other option is dismantling all the plastics and giving them a new paint job, ideally with a paint designed for plastic that is under frequent contact.

only thing todo in future is get a machine with coloured, rather than painted plastics (eg thinkpads) as Aod said
