Any recommendations on some good futuristic anime would be appreciated. :D

So far I've seen

Full Metal Panic
Macross inc. Robotech
Appleseed
Battle Fairy Yukikaze
Rahxephon
Bubblegum Crisis
Patlabor
Detonater Orgun
Only a couple Gundam though

Anything worth seeing that I'm missing here?

I recommend:

Ergo Proxy
Gun X Sword
Trigun
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Trinity Blood
Heroic Age
Chrno Crusade
Last Exile
The Third
The Vision of Escaflowne
Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex
Full Metal Alchemist

Only a few of these have mecha in them, but they're all good. For something semi-futuristic but with plenty of action, try Claymore. Actually, FMA falls into this category as well.

:)

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like there's a good few to check out there. :)

With regards to Neon Genesis, where would you recommend starting from? I remember being somewhat baffled when I was looking through them all in the shop the other day.

NGE has 28 episodes. Just start at the start and work your way through 'em. Don't expect much in the way of explanation, though! NGE gets very weird towards the end.

I don't mind that so much. As long as they don't have a fixation with saving the world by singing. Rahxephon was about as weird as I could take.

No problems there; they don't have a fixation with saving the world at all! In fact, you'll find that saving the world is the least of their problems...

Re eva, start with the Remastered version, then move onto the movies.

I say that as you've got the original series (shocking video in places), then the directors cut episodes, then the movies.

With the remastered version you get the good video, the directors cut episodes in the same set, and then the movies (so it 9 discs, instead of 12).

A couple of suggestions i'd make are Gasaraki (near future mechs, with mystical/political overtones a bit like Rahxephon), and Last Exile (naval battles in giant floating ships with steam cannons!) :)

Well...that's a few recommendations for the Last Exile now. Just managed to find the complete collection for £23.99. :D Ordered that and Gasaraki. Quite liking the sounds of those...and the price is too good to pass up.

Will spare my wallet any more pain for one day and grab the Evangelion Ultimate Collection next month.

Cheers for all the suggestions. Have made a note of some of the others mentioned. ;)

Then I guess the recent in the Macross franchise, Macross Frontier is out of the loop then? Same goes for the likes of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED/SEED Destiny or the recent Mobile Suit Gundam 00 as these also have a "Songstress" type character in them. But other than that, they are really good series.

I'm surprised on one has mentioned Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion & R2. Mai Hime & Mai-Otome could be another as well. A few more are Zegapain, Reideen and The Guyver Biobooster Armor series.

No, Rahxephon goes much further than that. It doesn't just have a few characters who sing; it has mecha which use singing as a form of attack.

I've swithered about getting Bepop a few times although not been too sure. If it's good then I'll check it out.

Just been looking at Gunparade March. Only read the synopsis although it sounds like it might also fit the bill. Anyone know if it's any good?

Cheers for all the suggestions. Already got a few ordered...just wondering what to line up after them. :)
