Why the lack of cheap monitors?

I've noticed on Overclockers there doesn't seem to be very many cheap, GOOD monitors. Elsewhere there's a good deal of choice of 19"ers, some even their own brand, but here there was a Viewsonic one for £80 (whom i've never heard of to be honest) and now there's a Hyundai one, and forgive me if i'm wrong but don't Hyundai specialise in car manufacturing? But a good monitor is an essential piece of kit, and on a budget build they're hard to come by. I would really like to see OCers stock good quality cheap monitors in the future. What other people tend to do is use older one's, not necessarily top of the range. Something like the Samsung SM943SN, which i've seen for around £70. What are your thoughts on this?

Yerp , all the low range 22" monitors have dissapeared aswell , I guess it's to do with the suppliers though , I bet they'd have them in stock if they could.

Would like to see a larger range though

I am having trouble at getting a mid priced 24" 1920x1200, as said its hard to blame the retailer.

Small cheap monitors a dying breed i guess but on another note I can't beleive you have never heard of Viewsonic? They are one of the oldest monitor manufacturers and at times have made some of the best monitors you can buy before the upstarts of lg and sumsung came on the scene.

I must be getting old.

I desperately want a 24" decent IPS screen but none exist bar the ludicrously priced NEC model

On the 24", i just got blown out on a samsung, the options on here are currently £250 or upto £425 for the HP (again in 1920 x1200). As i will not go the OC value route!

I am miffed as to the gap in the market?

Quite a lot of us waiting for a 24" eIPS .. some 23" ones on the way, but goodness knows what's going to happen. Don't worry it'll all be obsolescent soon enough when everyone is using 3D view

Viewsonic are definitely a known brand in the world of monitors, in fact until TFTs came out I would say they were arguably better known in that field than Samsung who you mention.

Hyundai monitors are completely different from the car manufacturer, had 4 of their screens myself and relatives with others. Would have bought one again this time round but the 2209 from dell was far too sexy to say no to.

Viewsonic make very good monitors from what I know. I had heard of them long before I became truly interested in having a custom PC.

people are never satisfied, a 24" tft can now be bought for under £200 and thats not 'cheap'.
probably find OC not selling dirt cheap ones cos theyre crap and will fail within a year.

Well I think the market was saturated and production has dropped somewhat (recession etc) so the budget sector has probably dried up a bit. Furthermore I expect there might be additional short term shortages with the extreme adverse weather conditions in China and Taiwan (and a few other Asian countries)
