I swear it was fine when I put her away, got back from 10 days in Spain - thought I'd pop out for a quick hoon & found this:

It's funny how everyone in my family swear that they haven't been any where near it. Really gutted as was thinking of putting it up for sale soon.

Quill site says lifetime warranty, so maybe they'll replace it? Unfortunately the websites under maintenance & they aren't answering their phone.

I can't see any damage as if somethings been dropped on it, and it seems as thought the crack started on the back? Well thats the widest part of the split. Faulty craftmanship?

I've got the standard silencers here, but would it run ok with the K&N and PowerCommander? Need it for work Monday too.

So pee'd off

Just tried firing it up, it blows harder than Sasha Grey. It also vibrates a lot, so the split will only get worse.

They should replace that under warranty, and its Saturday. Not many people work Saturdays :p

Try them again on Monday :)

Looks like a pretty straight clean crack, If would have taken a big knock to cause that, and you can't seem damage from a knock elsewhere on the can.

i would expect metal to bend rather than crack on impact

theres no dings or bends in the metal, so it doesnt look like it was dropped to me. So should be replaced under warranty imho

I've put the standard cans back on...they are huge & weigh a tonne:

4.8KG each!!

Started the bike up....and felt like crying. It's sounds like a sewing machine!! :D

Seems to tick over fine, should it sort the fueling out automatically? I'll take her for a quick blast after tea to see how it feels.

they should do that under warranty, looks like the can couldnt take the thump thump of your motor...

unless it's a power commander 5 with autotune the fueling wont sort itself out, most power commanders just work on a fixed map. you're not very likely to cause damage though as the differences in fueling are not that great with just a can...

you could always plug a laptop in and backup the old map and then zero all the values, download the latest power commander software from dynojet site.

Unfortunately I don't have a laptop. Could always set my PC up on the patio using an extension lead lol :D

My bike had the exhausts and a K&N filter, does that make much difference? Or did you mean engine mods? Don't want to cause any damage.

Is it possible to simply disconnect the PowerCommander?

That's nothing, standard cans on the KTM 950/990s are 6.something each :D:D:D

:D

not sure on the ins and out of tuning / going rich or lean... but I'm guessing the bike will run rich with standard cans back on (less power), so you should be fine.

if it runs really bad you could always setup your pc on patio like you say... just make sure you hit the 'get map' button first on software and back it up somewhere before you zero everything (stock is zero for all settings, that means no + or - fuel over stock at a given rpm / throttle postition)

you'll know when you get the map from the PC as you'll see lots of + and - settings.... stock settings is all 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

here is what a custom map looks like (my one)

Just came back from hooning it around all the A roads near me...nothing wrong with how it ran :D

Seems to tick over happily, no rough spots or spluttering - just smooth power everywhere.

Stupidly quiet though, I was well embarrassed lol :p

Quill won't replace it as I don't have the receipt

So much for life time warranty, what a con

They are expecting the materials in the make me a sleeve in 3 weeks - at a cost of £110 :(

The Quill sites not functioning atm, but i'm sure the systems were at least £400-500 so worth thinking about.

Guess I'll have to put the Falco up for sale without them. Might as well sell the Power Commander seperately.

That is a stress crack, almost certainly started from the weld and spread in either direction around the sleeve. It's possible the construction means that an internal part gets hotter and expands more than the sleeve does, creating stress.

I guess it's either aluminium alloy or titanium? You could get the crack welded up if you just want to use it. The crack has yet to spread to the outer side so a weld wouldn't show up too badly.

Do you know where you bought it from? Can you not contact them to arrange a receipt? They should have a record of the sale, and I am sure they will help you out :)

My understanding was that you can still exchange warranted items without a reciept but have no entitlement to a refund without proof of purchase?

why do they need receipts? its not as if its could be made by anyone but Quill themselves so the seller is imaterial considering your going direct and the date of purchase as proven by a receipt surely doesn't matter one jot either if its a lifetime guarentee which i know doesn't usually mean the riders lifetime, but I'd expect the law should backup that it should at least be equal of the lifetime of the bike.
They most likely want to see the receipt to prove that he was the person that bought the exhaust cans....As most warrantys/guarentees don't transfer to different owners..
