The Smoking Ban - 2 years on.

I like it as it is, in all honesty.

Spain has the same law effectively, yet it is not at all enforced... all the bars still have ashtrays inside and people smoking in them. Never understood that one.

As I said in the other thread - be great if people didnt smoke directly outside the entrance to a public/private building - rather than extend it Id hope it was more enforced (8m rule as someone mentioned)...

ps3ud0

There is no 8m rule.

There is no distance rule at all, you're in or you're out.

That's a sensible law, he kids have no choice.

Sensible??...ermmm maybe but i cant see the big deal if you have all the windows open whilst smoking...the smoke is going to be sucked out of the car is it not??.
What even more ridiculous is that you cannot smoke if you have a convertible :/

It should be ilegalised and the smokers hooked on nicotine patches. That way the government still get their money, the smokers still get their drug hit and we get a smoke free environment. It's a win win situation :D

Spains law is not the same.

Spain has a total smoking ban with exemptions if you are a cafe, pub or club under a total size i.e. Sq Inches of floor space) and if you are over that you have to have no smoking areas.

And then there are exemptions if the building is hosting a wedding, funeral or christening etc.

I think banning smoking in pubs was a bit too much but thinking back on how cafés and restaurants were (smoking/non smoking sides made no difference, still made the place stink), staff rooms too for that matter its a good thing on the whole.

It's been a total nightmare. Instead of the drunk idots smoking inside the pub/club, they are out in the street yelling their heads off at 2am.

Yeah my mum smokes and I could never smell it if she had the window open. Besides the fact that passive smoking is hardly going to hurt anyone. Inhaling someone's after-smoke from a couple of cigarettes is hardly as harmful as taking 10 a day directly, and it's not going to happen every day all day.

extend it, im happier to sit out side and have a fag rather then be in side anyway, same goes for home aswell

So true, I only smoke on nights out but I'd much rather go for one outside and return to a smoke-free atmosphere back in the pub.

I think the pub or club should get to choose!

CHOICE IS A WONDERFUL THING!

No, 'cos a lot of people make stupid choices. Choices are made for short term gain against (larger) long term loss. Choices are made for personal gain against (larger) social cost. Choices are made for financial gain against (larger) societal loss.

Smoking ban's a good thing.
