I really want to get a good sci-fi space game, loads of starship battles etc. This game looks pretty good, what do people think of it on here? Can anyone suggest any alternatives?

I've been having a look at EVE but I'm not really into multiplayer online games with a subscription fee, I'd rather just rack up a few hours as and when I have time.

Hi mate,

If you enjoy skirmish type games then its pretty good, I enjoy it anyway :)

Unfortunately there is no campaign / story mode or anything like that.

It would be worth getting the 'Entrenchment' add-on, as it adds quite a few new features that are worth having.

The next expansion concentrates on diplomacy I believe.

Maybe try the demo first to see if you like it?

I think I'll give it a go. I can pick it up for £10 now anyway so can't really go wrong I suppose.

I have it, but like a lot of games never got round to playing it, I really should.

You can always send it over to me and I'll tell you if it's worth getting round to playing ;)

cracking game, its seems quite complex to start with but persevere and you'll be rewarded with a top strategy game.

played quite a lot of co-op v AI with a few mates and the scale of some battles were immense !!

It is in all honesty one of the most in depth RTS games out there.

It is also fairly unique.

My one issue is the lenght of time you need to invest into a game.

Although I enjoy playing it, begin forced to sit for 2+ hours in order to complete a game is WAY to long.

In the time it takes to complete one game of SoaSE I could have played:
2 full campaigns of L4D
about 20 maps of CoD
2 to 4 games of SupCom
2 games of CoH

Gone to the shops and come back AND played another game as well

Long games are better for me. The quick pick up and play isn't really my thing, I like long in depth games. Might have to pick this one up :).

Amazing game, each skirmish can last for hours. Top game. I only played against the AI and I loved it for a week or two then got fed up. You really need to play against people or at least with them.
