I just had a go on vidzone. It's a free download from the PSN store (23mb). Once it updates you get access to a tonne of music vids and the quality is better than youtube. It allows for playlists and has lots of pre defined lists of vids that can just be streamed. I've had it going now for about 30 mins, not knowing what is coming next, and am absolutely loving it. You can even go full screen. Only downside is the odd add, but they are very minimal.

Anyone with a PS3 needs to check this out.

I thought it was crap myself. Far too slow both to load and to search for stuff, and the music selection didn't really have much that interested me either.

Thing is, I had some people over and we were chilling with few drinks etc. Having vidzone on was awesome cos it was like being in control of Music Television. Even some of the ads are entertaining cos they can be funny.

I thought about posting this. I started using it about a week ago. I just keep adding a few songs to my playlist each time I'm on there. I like it. I Haven't found a shuffle/random option yet but must be in there somewhere. Get's a bit much hearing 5 from this band then 6 from this band ETC

???? If you have looked through every band on vidzone then you have a lot more time on your hands then me. I haven't even scratched the surface. Or are you talking about the handful on pre-determined playlists on the front page?

.... you can't use spotify on the PS3. So not really valid.

Oh noes! My opinion is void because you say so.

I can't see the point in booting the PS3 up just for a dedicated music player to be honest.

If it were streaming music playlists, playing in the background whilst I was playing a game or using the browser, then it might be something interesting.

Sounds thrilling. Maybe it's just me, but I can think of better things to do than watch music videos if I have friends round.

Actually, I can just think of better things to do than watch music videos period.

That sounds like something girls would do. :D

.

This would annoy the hell out of me. If you want music on while you play a game, get a cd player.

Having a bad day or something?

I doubt you have much of an IQ but here goes.

Your point about Spotify wasn't valid in the context of vidzone because, clearly, it is a PS3 application. You just tried to be clever with a ">" quick post. Fail. If vidzone was a website then, sure, it would be "valid" to suggest spotify was better.

As for your second point, lol. You prob don't host that much, that's all I can say. Ever heard of pre going out drinks? Having something like that on in the background is ideal.

I do think vid zone is a good idea its just its not that quick if you dont own a pc
suppose it would be of interest for good quality music clips and you can set your own playlist up .
Wish they would let you browse the net with this or your mp3 collection so you can listen to some music while surfing :(

Aawww personal attacks? Nice try, no cigar. Not even close actually. ;) :p

I have a computer and a PS3 linked to my sound system. If I want to listen to music, which am I going to do?

Load VidZone with it's sluggish UI, etc etc up? Or just whack spotify on?

VidZone is a PS3 app, but it's the only PS3 app of it's kind. Therefore compared to the alternatives I'm sure it is amazing. Look further than the PS3, and you'll realise it's actually not that great.

I have a similar set up to you, orderoftheflame. I think it's pretty obvious that you take me for some sort of PS3 fanboy or something, which is far from reality trust me! I'm just saying that this app is pretty neat. It certainly was cool to see music vids streaming on my tv and not knowing what was coming next.

If your response hadn't been quite so patronising then the PA wouldn't have been served ;)

I don't see where he called you a fanboy, just pointing out the flaw in your "pre-going out drinks party thing." Why bother setting up the ps3 and vidzone when you could just stick in a cd and avoid any connection or streaming errors?

Quite possibly, I just don't really see it as a killer app like the OP described it as though. ;)

Sure it was an interesting idea the first time I used it, but the UI is seriously balls. Having to click letters up and down to search especially. (Unless I've missed some way of evoking the on screen keyboard).

It's aright for free, but I think I'll just stick with leaving spotify running in the corner of the room and let anyone walk up and add a track when they want for now. ;)
