As long as you have a price on it as far as I am aware it's illegal. If however, you have a paper in the side window with your number on it I'm sure people will get the gist that the car is for sale and this method is not illegal but pushing it.

So it seems as though it is, strictly speaking, illegal. Can't really see it being a problem however, unless you get one knowledgeable, ******* of a copper looking to do more paperwork, for it to inevitably get thrown out of court.
I wouldn't run the risk to be honest.
