Hi peeps!

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I tried searching but apparently "Nikon D80" is too short?! Not really sure how I'm meant to search....

Anywho!

A friend at work is selling his camera and some gear and I mentioned to him that my Dad would love an SLR. He used to have one many moons ago, but had to sell it. It's his Birthday next month and so me and my bro were, funnily enough, looking at SLR camera's. So the timing is quite good!

I've read the review of this camera on DPReview.com and it seems great, obviously, I don't understand half of the stuff myself but it received a "Highly Recommended" award. :D

I'd just like to hear other people's thoughts on this camera. Will my Dad be pleased, or should I look elsewhere?

My friend at work is going to bring it in for me to look at, so I can't wait to have a look. From what I've seen it should be a good camera.

Thanks in advance! :)

Good cameras, certainly nothing wrong with them. Whether or not it's a good buy depends on the price and what lenses and such come with it.

Thanks, yeah it looks like the Camera is £499 on it's own, so I will see what "mates rates" my friend comes back with. :D

Don't get it at £499

Can pick up a brand new 40D for £550 and a d90 for another £80 or so. D80s go for about £300-350 used.

You should pay around £350 for a D80. No more than a mint one with a low number of shutter actuations.

And, YES! It is THE best camera available today for someone looking to take up photography more seriously. Get one and post up!

An excellent camera, I have one and love it.

If your dad knows his way round an SLR and wants to get into digital then it's a great piece of kit for an advanced amateur.
