***The Official Nokia N97 Thread (Keep all N97 stuff in here)***

Got the update, no idea what's changed yet (apart from it's reverted back to the blue theme being default, wheras V11 had the black theme as default). It still has issues with not unlocking the keyboard sometimes and I still can't delete WLAN connections.

On an unrelated note. I had a struggle setting up the pause needed in contact phone numbers when using call forwarding services such as 0800 buster.

(0800 buster is a service that provides a geographic number you can dial then lets you dial an 0800 number, thus letting you call 0800 numbers as part of your free minutes rather than paying 14p a minute to Orange or 20p a minute to O2 to call the damn things)

you have to enter the letter P in the number to represent "pause" but you can't do this because P is also 0 on this keyboard, so you hit the blue arrow key in the bottom right then press P to actually get a P.

For example to set up calling the RAC you would set the number as 01200490800p0800828282#

Sorry if this has already been addressed earlier in the thread, but it took me a while to find the answer. This also works for places where you need to dial an extension or mailbox number too.

Has signal improved?

I've never had any issues with signal (only had the phone a week) as I live 3/4 of the way up a hill and the transmitter is on the top of the next hill. Sorry.

Probably also worth noting that the example I used are currently having issues with their service. Some 0800 numbers work, some don't.

Also is saynoto0870.com down for anyone else? Wanted to start work on my client for that, but can't use the site!

It is a well documented problem.

will talk on irc when i get the chance

Will idle on IRC to hear what you say :)

Has anyone else tried to develop apps in python for this phone yet? I'd really like to be able to get at the standard Symbian phone number entry screen, and also be able to dial a number and have the caller actually be able to hear and speak to the person on the other end.

The bit where it looks up the number on saynoto0870.com and returns a list of geographic numbers is working perfectly, even on the n97 itself, but it's not much good if you can't bloody dial afterwards!

I'll release the code as soon as I find a good open source licence, that's similar to GPL but doesn't allow distribution for profit.

to be fair its pretty boring. I am just bored stiff at work and wanted some attention, how sad :( (off in 17mins though woo!)

Well, my 0870 app is done. It's an early release with pretty much zero error handling (it just dumps the Python traceback to the console, whice is fine). Tested on S60v5 (n97) and S60v3 (E90)

First install Python_1.9.7.sis then install my 0870 dialler
Edit: Updated to v 1.01(5) 19/08/09 01:50 - improved the UI,included 0800 buster in the search results where appropriate, made the cancel buttons work properly (Stupid nokia, when they say cancel returns None. It doesn't return the Python keyword None, it returns a unicode string containing the word "None" grr.)
Edit2: Source code now available at www.lum.co.uk/0870

When run you'll be prompted for the area code from a list, then asked to enter the remaining part of the number. The reason for this is that a UK phone number is too big to be stored as an integer and using appuifq.query and asking for a number forces you to use an integer. If I asked for text it'd be fine, but the top row of keys default to text in that case.

It'll go online and search saynoto0870.com and present you with the results. Choose one and it'll dial.

If you cancel at any point it'll most likely crap out with an error message (eg "unrecoverable failure in name resolution" if you didn't let it connect to the internet) but it wont do any harm. Python handles all that sort of thing for you so it wont destabilise the phone.

If you try it let me know what you think (other than the UI sucks, I know already)

Anyone know if there's a way to boost the FM transmitter just a little bit, it works fine in most cars/stereo's but in one of my mates car it just lacks a little bit of power to transmit the stereo signal without distortions to the radio wherever I put it. I just need a little bit of signal boost...

Or is there a specific frequency that is easier to transmit or pick up or whatever ( I have no idea about the details of how radio works ). I tried the stock 90.0 FM and I manually changed it to 91.5 FM as there's a a radio station at 89.5fm here which takes over when I move the phone too far from the radio receiver on 90fm...

The FM antenna probably isn't actually located in the car stereo you know. It'll either be on your roof or wing, or possibly built into the rear windscreen.

Find out where the actual antenna is and try moving the phone closer to that. Assuming the cars in your signature are actually yours, the Skyline will have it at the rear of the car so try the phone on the parcel shelf. Not sure where it is on the BMW, but I'm sure Fox will know :)

I'm having the same issue as snowdog with the FM transmitter, I have a Mondeo with the antenna on the roof at the front and normally have the phone on the passenger seat. Also I'm not sure if it is my cheap ass car charger but when the phone is on charge the FM transmitter power seems to be lower and unusable.

The external antenna is connected with a cable to the back of the radio which kind of works like as an antenna too I think, but anyways, aiming for the outside antenna won't make it better I think because It's outside and the shell of the car blocks the signal, but I guess I can try I mean I haven't really tried just assumed I have to have the phone as close as possible to the radio itself.
