Hmmm. I suppose that depends on the speed of smell. You may never hear it before you lose consciousness.
get yourself a carbon monoxide tester. either one like a fire alarm. Or a little carbon thing with a circle in the middle and place close to the boiler.
But it could be anything, including medical especially if you are fine.

I cant believe this thread is still going on - If you have any doubts about your boiler get it checked and stop using it until it has been checked !
ONCE AGAIN I WILL SAY THIS
"Gas itself is not poisonous, Carbon Monoxide is caused by poor combustion. If you have concerns about your boiler then DO NOT use it and get it serviced or contact your landord (if you have one) and get them to get it looked at. If you feel you have a Gas Escape then call 0800 111999 (this is a 24hr service) and you will be visited within 1hr to 2hrs (24hrs a day) and the engineer will make the boiler safe i.e. so it cant be used - this visit is free. "
