What Mayer-Briggs are you?

Yer reasonably pointless but some companies may make you do it at interviews.

It was free at uni and a good waste of couple of hours.

i wouldn't pay for it though

What type of company would waste their money on this crap?

Is it so they can add to their database "Jeff from Accounts is a Gold"? What good does that do them?

Supposedly ENTP, been the same in tests for years. Seems a little like horoscopes though, you identify which whatever is written about 'you'.

My employer for one! I am usually very sceptical of these sorts of tests, however the training day was genuinely useful and made me understand other peoples ways of thinking.

As an example, as an natural "extroverted thinking" ESTP I am the first to stand up in a brainstorming session and get people motivated and involved in solving the problem. It has however helped me understand that others like to sit back and listen to what others have to say before inputting their views (introverted thinking), in the past I was actually being counterproductive by trying to get the introverted thinkers to act more extroverted and get involved in the discussion early.

Myers Briggs has its limits, and I am still not convinced it applies to everything, however as a tool to understand the natural tendancies of others compared to yourself it is extremely useful. I do however fail to see how these online tests can tell you what type you are in 5 minutes, it took a full day for me to really understand my type and even then I kept swaying between two types for a few days.

If you pay to have some numpty tell you what 'colour' you are then I can tell you exactly what type of person you are. Just send me £10 and I'll email you the result.

The company I used to work for did this as well. It was basically to help people understand that different people work in different ways, and just because someone is quiet or not participating it doesn't mean they are bored or have no interest, they may prefer to think things over first rather than talking it all through with someone else for example.

I'm now ENFJ just to add to the thread :p

Grand, post your bank details and I'll wire the money directly into your account. How long will it be before you can e-mail me the results?

Did it in a previous job: ENTP

It was quite an interesting excercise to do as a team more for the discussion it prompted about peoples personalities than the actual results.

I did my MB test with my employer as part of a course - can't remember which one - and the result of the attendees were very interesting.
It was explained that the majority of people in the company (now 40,000) are either ISTJ or ENTJ with a roughly 50% split. There were others such as ESFP in the company that were recognised to effectively glue the two majorities together.

MB tests are not associated with the colours but it's interesting as the colours do fit, not surprising as they're basically a rehash of MB.

I just used the MB test results to find the colour.. I wouldn't dream of wasting $150 on her test :D

Your Type is : INTJ

Introverted Intuitive 89%
Thinking 12%
Judging 62%
Strength of the preferences 33%

Qualitative analysis of your type formula

You are:

* very expressed introvert
* slightly expressed intuitive personality
* distinctively expressed thinking personality
* moderately expressed judging personality

Probably pretty true.

Apparently im INTJ - No idea what that means :confused:

INTJ is a very common one for software engineers or software consultants.

It means you think, make judgement decisions based on your intuition rather than what a set of numbers may be telling you. You'd probably recharge your batteries either by yourself or with a close set of friends that you've known for some time.

INFJ

The main thing to remember with the MTBI is that it is only an indicator, and that different situations might result in different dimensions being expressed more.

There are also some subjective weaknesses in the Q/A methodogy. For example, do you prefer living in the City or the countryside? Well, I like both. Wouldn't want to be living in Picadilly Circus but neither would I like to be in the Outer Hebrides. I like the City environment for going out but I also want to be able to relax in the Countryside. Not an easy question to answer.
