After many years of slagging off roadies, i am about to turn to the darkside. I plan to spend around £1200 or so and have set my sights on one with a minimum of 105 drivetrain and preferably a carbon frame.

Am i right in thinking that a carbon frame will give me a softer/more comfortable ride than a aluminium frame?

I've been looking at the cannondale six carbon 105, and the scott CR1 team bike.

Does anyone have any advice?

Initially i plan to use it for fitness, but i can possible see myself doing a few time trials or races maybe next year. Would this kind of bike be suitable?

I also weigh just under 60kg, and am 169cm (around 5ft6.5) - what frame size should i be going for, 52/54?

Might want to have a look at the Planet-X range. I'm about to slap some cash down on a roadie, and it's between PX and at Focus Cayo

Focus bikes offer good value for money and look decent. If you're not fussed about the brand then Boardman bikes can't be beaten for bang for your buck.

If I was to buy a road bike it would be a Specialized Tarmac.
2009 or 2010 Tarmac with 105 drive train and a Carbon frame comes in at £1500.

I've got a Planet X SL Pro Carbon - it's lurvely.

AFAIK, everything is direct from Planet X so you'd have to find somebody who already owns one for a test ride away from them.

Actually from what I've just been reading, the 2010 105 is essentially the 2009 Ultegra, so that's actually pretty good.
