I live in Devon, where we all have a brand new Combine Harvester. I have never, in all my time driving around the narrow lanes of Devon, ever rounded a corner to find an unoccupied tractor in the middle of the road, stationary.

thats NOT what im saying. im saying take the extra 30 seconds or so to check whats around the corner.

ive owned some properly modified cars in my time but there is a time and place etc.

No it really isn’t, it's your simplistic view of the world based on one or a couple of incidents as I said in my post above, it is far from the catch all resolution to the issue you seem to think. We live in a world that has realities and simply slowing down to 5mph is not one of them and even then doesn't guarantee to resolve the issue. You seem to miss this and if you don't you're naive.

While I certainly believe you should travel no faster than a speed at which you can stop in the distance you see, the notion of stopping before a blind bend, parking, getting out the car and walking round the bend to see if it's safe seems incredibly retarded, all the time not just 99% of the time, and I won't bore you with the reasons, I'm sure you're perfectly aware of them.

While I agree that banning horses from the road is somewhat silly I also think your statement about car drivers is somewhat sweeping, not least as many of those bike riders will drive cars. To imply they are more erudite when riding than driving is naive as it is to suggest that they drive properly because they ride bike. An idiot is an idiot, his mode of transport has little if any influence on that.

The problem in the UK is the lack of decent cycle paths, it really annoys me when I try and cycle somewhere and then I'm not able to because of stiles etc.
