A few days ago i started a thread about a trip to London, that i wanted to take with my 12 year old daughter,(for 2 days, for 12-13 Sept).

I told my mother about this idea, and today i recieved a check in the post for £500.

She also phoned me whilst i was watching the Arsenal Celtic game, just to say she wanted to pay for it.

Now i can afford to pay for it, but my mum has loads of money so she can as well.

What to do. Say thanks and let her pay, or say no thanks because i am a proud son.

Easy. Pay for it yourself, then use the money your mother gave you to buy stuff for the girl? This way you ge to take her there and have a good time.

Returning it will make her feel like she's made you feel uncomfortable (which I know she has), so really you'd be doing the best thing by letting her pay.

Ok let me put this another way. My brother has kids, and my mum (their grandmother) has very little money. The one thing she wishes she could do mroe then anything is treat them sometimes.
So if you take the money from your mother, you are happier cause you have to spend less, the kid is happier cause she gets more toys / pressies / clothes, and your mother is happy cause she can treat her grand kid. Do everyone a favour and take the money :p

i partly agree with oxygene, but i'd probably also buy something for the mother, it's her money but it's still a present so she'll be happy with that.

good plan, let her pay for it, take lots of spending money and buy something really nice for your mother while you're down there.

and for the love of all that is holy, make sure you AND your daughter thanks your mum, so very common is it to say thanks on behalf of the child, but then the child just assumes this is normal, not a treat, expects it more often and your mother gets ignored or just seen as mrs moneybags :(

but good on the lot of you for being the type to do stuff, the people I know, (mostly the dads) don't do anything, just sit round ignoring the kids like an inconvenience :/
