my ps3 why does it sound like a jet taking off?

Sony sent me a refurb replacement ps3 after my original one died, but this unit is so loud! After 5 mins of watching an avi it bursts into super loud mode.

Is this one on it's way out as well?
 
Probably not on its way out, some units are incredibly loud. I had the same problem as you with a refurb so i called up, said the fans were spinning loud and then lied and also claimed it was freezing while playing games. My logic was the fan spinning up meant the heat sink might not be making proper contact with the CPU/GPU so locking up would be a logical, more serious symptom to pair it up with in order to get another replacement.

Third PS3 was silent again.
 
It is very common, Sony usually refuse to accept that it is a faulty console, if you stick at it though you will find someone that will replace it
 
You know my 40gig machine which was ALWAYS silent is very noisy when i play Fifa09 and Fight Night Round 4.. Both EA games, both after about 10mins fans go to full pelt.. Just those two games.. My original 60gig though noiser in general, compared to the typically silent 40gig, never ever goes into full pelt... Actually my 40gig is actually noiser than my 360 and that's annoying.. Cos i don't play my 360 cos it makes my ears throb. Just those two games though...
