Ive never bought a computer, epsecially gaming rig around crimbo, do they have special deals to tempt us to buy with them, like any other form of online shop as. Or is Gaming rigs excluded from this;)

Also is it true VAT goes from 15% back to 17.5% in 2010:eek:

Also the I7 Core 920 will be discontinued at end of year, is this true:confused:
Not read anything on these I5 cpu's, but seems not as good as I7 920, but will be same price? what is point of that:confused:

With windows 7 & ATI cards out before end of year also, seems smart move to buy before end of year.:)

Do overclockers usually have some special crimbo offers:)

I can't recall what the Christmas deals were last year, but the "THIS WEEK ONLY" are on every week so you'll never be short of a good deal around that time.

The this week only offers impress me, till you notice you have to change GPU,case & stick in operating system. Then you realise comes to around £100 more compared to other sites:eek:

I wish OcUK would offer more prebuilt rigs, i just can't bring myself to buy all parts, incase i screw up & 1k down drain.

I will see what pops up when W7 released & first set of prebuilt gaming rigs have new ATI cards in them, and then compare prices. I will defo buy my monitor off here though:)

It's a killer putting off buying my gaming rig last 2-3 months, but will be worth wait in the end ;)

Ring the shop. Pretty sure they will make you a complete custom build.

Honestly, these days computers are so easy to build anyone can do it. You'd have to be pretty cack handed or have no common sense at all to mess it up. Yes, you can forget to plug in a power connector or something but it won't kill everything.
Just give it a go, read some guides online, be methodical and read the manual that comes with your motherboard (pretty much the only thing you need to read) :) If you get stuck just ask on here.

To be honest, i was for all giving it ago till the "short circuiting motherboard" issue which CAN happen. All that being grounded stuff is abit too much for me. Fitting the motherboard would also be major issue for me, if was just a case of slotting the other bits into place, then that be ok.

I will see, month or two off before i take plunge anyway. The saving only seems to be around £100 anyway from pre built one to buying all parts. So not like £200+ saving.

think of it like this:

1) you save a LOT of cash buying parts rather than pre-built
2) you get to choose exactly what you want (with guidance from forum members)
3) you save a LOT of cash by learning how it all works, so if something goes wrong you don't have to pay a rip-off PC repair centre to fix things for you, and they frequently rip you off by saying, for example, your PSU is dead, charging you £100 for a new one, when in reality it may be just a software problem that would cost nothing to fix and would take you 5 mins.

You only really have to build one or two PCs in your lifetime to learn pretty much everything you need to know, then you're set.

And as I said everyone here is ridiculously helpful, so any problems along the way you'll get help almost instantly.

I'd look into the possibility a bit more before going down the pre-built route.

Cheers

Don't worry about shorting, it wont blow your board or components, it just means they wont start and if you use the stand offs and cardboard washers you have nothing to worry about:)

aye, just stick the mobo on cardboard, touch a radiator before you go anywhere near anything internal and take your time. don't leave any loose screws roaming around the mobo or case and off you go.

simple as pie :)

Im tempted;)

Ive read up a lot on fitting the components, looks pretty simple as you lot say. I will probably give it ago, as you say this forum is very helpful if any problems arise.:)

good man! definitely give it a go - it will be very worth it in the end and you'll have learned tonnes. as i say everyone here is very helpful - you'll get walked through the process if you start a build thread like I did.
