So a couple of days after Andy Murrays win at the Montreal Masters to take world number 2 he will defend his Cincinatti masters title.

With the seedings for the USOpen being taken from the post Cincinatti tourney then Murray will be looking to successfully defend his title and ensure the pressure is on at the USOpen this year.

His draw can be summed up like this with his potential route to the final.

R1: Bye
R2: Almagro/Sela
R3: Safin/Stepanek
QF: Verdasco/Del Potro
SF: Federer/Roddick
F: Nadal/Djokovic

Del Potro in the quarters will be the first big test but the big man as seen in the final let his tiredness come into play so this may be a factor this coming week.

Unfortunately Murray was seeded 3rd for this tournament as the rankings were from last week so he may meet Fed in the semi final of this event.

To remain at number 2 going into the USOpen this cant happen:

-Rafa wins Cinci and Andy doesn't make the final, or
-Rafa is runner-up & Andy loses first match.

I feel quite confident as for Nadal to make the final will possibly take a lot and to win it even more. Will be an interesting week indeed.

Can't really see him being the no 2 seed at the US OPen even if he stays ranked no 2 in the world unless the seedings need to be the same as the rankings.

Nadal is the obvious no 2 seed.

Nadal is the obvious no 2 seed.

The rankings are the seedings ;) That's why great importance has been placed on these last couple of tournaments.

Plus if you went by last year Murray being the runner up would make him entitled to be no 2 seed for the tournament.

Murray has the simplest of routes to the semi finals now that Del Potro has pulled out.

Almagro tomorrow should have no business even to trouble Murray on a hard court.

Safin has been rubbish all year, and Stepanek has been injured recently so the 3rd round should also provide no problems.

With Del Potro out, Verdasco was the next biggest threat in Murray's quarter. He's just lost, so another fairly easy match in the QFs.

Murray should be looking to get to the SFs without dropping a set. He has been rather lucky for the draw to pan out as it has, as it allows him to recover from last week by getting through 3 fairly easy matches upto the QFs.

Another title here is no way out of the question for Murray here. But obviously the US Open is the one he really wants.

Barring an epic upset, Murray has the number 2 seeding for the US Open in the bag. It would be so strange if Nadal and Federer were drawn to face each other in the SFs, seeing as it has been impossible for the last 4 years.

Oh yes! :D

Good news indeed, also good for Del Potro, want to see him at the US Open fully fit as at only 20 he has a great future ahead of him.

Well of course he should reach the semi's at least now, that would be the minimum I would expect also. However as you say he has a great chance now of taking this title.

Hopefully Rafa doesn't make the final and win it because that would be heartbreaking for Murray if he didnt get there.

I would love to see both Nadal and Fed fight it out in a Semi Final to meet Murray in the final would just be great :D Your pretty much guarenteed a loooooong match before it similar to what happened to Murray at last years US Open

Yeah, if he improves his fitness in comparison with Murray he will be very tough to beat in the future.

Just wonder how much Murray has left in him for this tournament with winning in Montreal. Perhaps an early exit wouldn't be a bad thing, even if he has a weeks preparation before the last slam of the season.

Murray is a serial grand slam choker, get used to it :)
2008 Wimbledon: QF - Lost to the winner of the tournament Nadal.
2008 US Open: F - Lost to the winner of the tournament Federer.
2009 Australian: 4R - Lost to Verdasco in 5 sets. Verdasco in turn took the winner of the tournament Nadal to 5 sets.
2009 French: QF - Lost to clay court specialist Gonzalez.
2009 Wimbledon: SF - Lost to Roddick 3-1 in a close match which was decided on two tie-breakers. Roddick went on to push Federer all the way in the final.

I can see why you would think he was a choker ;)

Only a few responses, was hardly worth it :D

I'll admit i don't really like his demeanour nor his overall personality but he has a nice shot at the US, he is probably at his peak right now though so he really needs to make the most out of the next few US/AUS slams as i think it's going to be hard for him to crack Wimbldeon with his game.

You need to time them better marscay :p

No point getting into the same old arguments as to why you dont like him anyways as it's a pointless argument that one, everyone has made their mind up one way or another.

Anyways, I dont think he will actually win Wimbledon, I think we'll be waiting a long long time to see a Brit win that tournament but Murray COULD adapt his game to do so as he has the required talent but it's whether he will or not.

I do agree he has a nice shot at the US and especially if he is kept away from Federer in the draw(If he remains number 2 that will happen) then he can make the final again.

He is improving all the time but his game is almost becoming too defensive. Murray is a fantastic counter puncher and a great shot maker, but I would like to see him become more aggressive in his play as I feel this is the only missing element.

Murray is on around 8pm tonight.

Everyone of course realises that even the mighty Federer didnt win any of his first 25 Grand Slams (according to the BBC with a quote from Murray) and this years US Open will be Murray's 23rd

Not only that Murray is still very young indeed - he could easily have another 6 or 7 years in the game at the top level , and maybe upto 10 depending on his fitness / injuries etc (Agassi went into his 30's recently and Fed isnt far off his 30th) - so whats the rush?

The rush is Del Potro is even younger :p
No idea why but he looked a bit like Pedobear when he was playing Murray in the final a few days ago.

Murray has a good chance to defend his title here, I don't think Fed will put too much importance on this one and will save himself for the US Open.

and Del Potro is a lot more picky on the surface being played upon seemingly

Seeing as how close the US final was last year - I dont think Fed will give away too much to Murray in either tournement

5-5 on serve, suspended for rain atm, should be back on court soon however.

Murray is playing well on serve as is Almagro, some great shots and rallys from both.
