HAPPY HAPPY! Napoleon: Total War, Inside!

Tbh, lost interest in this after trying Empire, I hope the campaign will be simpler and nicer to play but I doubt it.

Indeed, Empire was a failure for me, think I only played about 5-10 hours.

Can't even sell the damn thing now, as it registers to Steam.

Such a let down after Rome & Medieval II.

Looking forward to this, put an awful lot of hours into Empire, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Shame they foist this pre-rendered crap on us instead of some actual in game footage.

I've played 65 hours of Empire so far. The stock campaign is a bit of a let down but the mods are fantastic. The Napoleonic era was the natural progression and it will be interesting to see how they handle it - I presume it is just an expansion to Empires? I wonder if they will allow you to progress with the tech tree and things like that?

If this is an expansion I'm all over it... if it's a full new game though then I'll be a bit disappointed that they've kind of abandoned empire and just moved on...

It's an expansion from all accounts but it only seems to focus on a few years between the end of the Empires and the beginning of Napoleon's conquests - so I've no idea how the time-frame will be handled?

There will be a new particle engine, and graphical upgrades. The AI etc will be the same I'd imagine so it will need modding out of the box :D

I am playing with DarthMod 2.6 and a few retextures mods at the mo, trying to keep it simple.

this ign article has a lot of info :)

what does darthmod change? Just trying to work out if it's worth getting some mods to play with.

The Darthmod is vast mate - but a lot of the changes are behind the scenes which will effect the campaign and the battle AI for the better.

It's the Commander edition, which basically trebles the unit size, so you can have really epic battles providing your pc can cope.

It's not an expansion! It's a full new game, apparently due febuary 2010.
I think they'll have realised Empires shortcomings and fix them!

Question is does it matter if it's classed as an expansion or a new game? Where do you get that info from? I know it's due Feb 2010 from the IGN report but it doesn't say it's a brand new game - it just says it continues from where Empires left off and it will have 'new features' just like the expansions before. Seems like a ploy to rake in the cash though - they will continue to support Empires so I don't get it really. Maybe what they wanted to include was above and beyond what Empires can manage. Sounds interesting either way.

It better not be a new game after Empire's less than glorius release - if it is I won't be buying it unless Sega offer people who pre-ordered ETW a hugley discounted price. After putting up with the state the game was in when it was released I think we deserve it...

Creative Assembly have stated in the comments on their official youtube channel that is is a new game.

Also on their website they have this

Napoleon: Total War™ is the new chapter in the critically acclaimed Total War series and opens up a new narrative layer to the genre-defining franchise. From the early Italian campaign to the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon covers two decades of relentless battles, a backdrop of a world in flames against which the story of an extraordinary military career unfolds.

It doesn't actually say 'new game' though. Regardless I don't see how this is any different to the expansion packs prior. They are adding a few new features, and new graphics and a new campaign, which they did before. BUT they will probably charge FULL price for this. A new game to me would mean a completely different era.

They did Medieval twice.
And Medieval II was the second game made on the Rome engine.
Plus, this is 100 years later, it's not a great leap in time, but a jump none the less.

What I mean is there was a significant gap between the release of the first Medieval and the second and it was apparent that there was a *big* difference in games even if they used just a slightly upgraded engine. There is no way Napoleon will be a revolutionary step over Empires. This is just CA jumping on the 'recession-hit' bandwagon. You can almost guarantee it will be a full price release.

Looks cool, will be fun to crush the French as Wellington.

Though they will need to change the map a bit, Portugal, Spain and France are only 1 territory each, not that great really for a proper fight in Europe.

From what I've read this isn't an expansion. This is a new game and by the sounds of things they have dropped the Grand Campaign from previous games in favour of Road To Independence style campaigns.

The fact is, Empire still has a lot of issues and a Multiplayer Campaign was in the planning. They have said they will continue to support Empire and 1.4 is on the way. But they haven't exactly said anything about the Online Campaign yet which I'm hoping will still be released.
