Onkyo reasserts its high-end home entertainment credentials with the launch of three Network AV Receivers

Flagship products in every sense of the word…

Onkyo, one of the world’s premier hi-fi and home cinema brands, has some excellent news for high-end home cinema and music enthusiasts – the launch of three truly awe-inspiring THX Ultra2 Plus-certified 9.2-channel Network AV Receivers.

It’s Onkyo’s belief that the TX-SR5007 – our 2009 flagship model – and its companion TX-NR3007 and TX-NR1007 models offer a level of performance, combined with an outstanding array of cutting-edge features and functionality, that will reinforce Onkyo’s reputation as the brand to have when it comes to home cinema.............

............. Prices (all products available in September 09)

TX-NR5007 - £2000

TX-NR3007 - £1700

TX-NR1007 – £1300

for those with a little onkyo knowledge, you'll quickly realise the 5007 is little more than a 906 with a few extra channels (9.2) and features thrown in. It's monsterously over-priced and the 3007 & 1007 follow the same trend.

Let's hope they totally redefine home cinema or else they will get slaughtered by the AV community. Also are these prices a sign of things to come? The only thing i can really say at this time is that my 805 is staying put for another year at least.

The new processor PR-SC5507 is very expensive also, i see one store has it on pre-order for £2400 or something.

But £2k for an Onkyo receiver ....that is Yamaha Z7 territory, if all they've added is that 9.2 crap and some other useless network junk ....total rip off.

Onkyo do make nice kit (love my 605) but £2k is getting into high-end territory! That thing doesn't even look like £2k's worth of kit, just an oversized 906...

everybody has said it's £2k, it just so happens a certain website has it up for pre-order at £2.4k. The RRP is still £2k however.

I've never seen onkyo as a high end manufacturer anyway they make FANTASTIC value for money kit <£1000, but over that yamaha and denon dominate AVR's. People spending that kind of money will usually go the pre power route anyway.

But....but....but.... it has balanced outputs :p

Stupid pricing considering you could pickup a £1k processor (no-HD Arcam AV9, Emotiva UMC-1, Onkyo 885/885) and a £1k 5/7 channel power amp (Rotel 1075, Arcam P7) which together would **** all over an onkyo like these, especially for music, and as always, looks :D

Bring on the Emotiva UMC-1 (if it ever comes out), Il be getting one and a reviewing it asap.

I figured as much too but it makes for better drama :) either way it is a bit pricey.

Yep the AV9/P7 really does **** all over an Onkyo ....i liked the 805 for value but words can't describe the difference in performance.

I was interested in that Emotiva awhile back, lol and it still isn't out.:p

9.2 channel???
When did this happen?

I thought 7.1 was current..?

Never really liked Onkyo. And at those prices i dont like them either.

I'll stick with my 876 as I don't need any upgrade any time soon. Does it's job and is more than enough power for my home cinema setup, brilliant piece of kit.

For that money I'd expect a new / better looking unit and better front display. To me it's just a 906 with a few little extras.

Will check out the reviews, but yes as already mentioned, for that money I'd look into other high end brands before spending that sort of money.

Not to take anything from the current gen 876 / 906. Brilliant pieces of equipment and are right up there competing even with some of the better home cinema amps.

Lots of noobs slate Onkyo but they make good HT amps for the money, most are only repeating the same BS they saw some other noob post and have no actual experience using said receivers.

But i doubt these new receivers will stay at those prices for very long, they are very quick to market with new features though and i'm sure there's a few who will go for a 9.2 setup just to say they have it.

I wouldnt be without my 805 for love nor money - I really think its the bees knees for movies (never really wanted or needed to use it for music) and on release that was nearly the top of the tree price wise I seem to recall

£2000 for the 2009 premium model - they have GOT to be kidding, its a complete rip off, as stated I would look at different makes for that kind of money (if I had it)

I have defended Onkyo in the past - but they deservedly NEED slating for this pricing structure

I tried one at home, really wasn't impressed in the slightest. £1000 for an amp that whilst crammed full of features, IMO didn't sound any better than the Yam E800 I had at the time on SD-DVD. Whilst I can only speculate on how it would compare against my present processor, I'm guessing it wouldn't do too well.

That really is a great bit of kit, and I'm very happy with mine for £50. But I need another digital input as I'm all out, plus want to be able to connect all HDMI devices to it will also help, considering I have x4 HDMI sources and only x3 active inputs on the back of the Kuro. HD audio is just the icing on the cake for me and I regard it in the same way as I do 1080p vs 720p.
