Guys

I decided that I would give up smoking this year as I am nearly 40 , 20 a day for the last 23 years is a bad habbit to break.

Anyhow went and saw the Quack last week and was prescibed Champix and it has slowly worked , I have been feeeling nauseous with the pills and had cut down to about 10 a day up until this Monday .

Monday arrives and I have 5 fagss left in a pack of 20 I bought late Friday night so I decide I am going to just force myself and smoke theese and not buy any more .

Day two will nearly be over and I have not had a fagg since Monday night at 10:30 , trouble is I am now very very ratty and I am looking for an excuse to take the dog for a walk via the gargae and get some tabbs , I am climbing the walls at the moments .

Any tips please ? Please .

Just stay away from the temptations for the time being, avoid friends who smoke, avoid everything smoke related, at least until the physical signs have worn off... i reckon!

Good luck mate, Ive tried inhalers, patches and Champix. The latter made me feel very, very nauseous, like being hungover x10. I still smoke. Im 27 and can smoke anything from 20-30 a day.

Its a disgusting habit but one which I find so hard to quit. I feel for anyone trying to do it.

Im patiently waiting for the non-smokers to post their typical comments ala "just dont smoke"

Oh..one thing which did help me...

One nurse suggested vanilla yoghurt, as cigarettes are apparently lightly flavoured with vanilla flavouring, which I didnt know.

Was she saying this in a suggeative way ?

I suppose at the end of the day it's just a case of willpower alone , keep em coming guys , If you keep me replying for the next 90 mins then I may miss the garage .

I had a jam jar with ciggie butts in it, and put in a little water. When I got the urge, I unscrewed the lid and had a sniff. That awful smell was enough to cold turkey and I'd smoked for 18 years and was on 40-60 B&H a day.

I still miss it at times, but I'm so much healthier - and that's what I'd rather have in my life.

Good luck pal.

/edit: and the same trick has just been posted at the same time! it must work eh ;)

Just remember the real craving only lasts for 5mins or so, the rest is just your own habit of sparking one up.

I always like this one too;

Get some ice picks. Climbing the walls is extremely hard with just your hands and feet, only the pro's can actually do it. Ice picks are great for a beginner, but make sure to invest in some good quality ones, you don't want them to break halfway up. Oh, and be careful of ceiling fans, if you have them.

intellicig (spelling may be wrong). They are a small vapouriser that you buy, they contain just nicotine so you get rid of all the chemicals..each month you get less strength until your at none then you only have to stop the hand mouth habit..few guys have tried it at my work and all have stopped smoking so far!

Best of luck i really hope you do it.Been on them for 15 yrs on and off.Have tried the patches/gum,willpower etc.The longest time i managed to quit was for 3 weeks last year when i had a bad dose of the flu.:(

Good old willpower & no gimmicks ,if you really want to stop then you will, it worked for me and some other family members

the ashes in a jar trick sounds good though for remind you how awful smoking is

Do you live with anyone, the best way is to cut down, if you smoke 20 try smoking 10 a day for say 3 weeks, then cut that down to 5 a day for a few more weeks. Let your partner friend regulate your cigs, after a while youll give up or just smoke 1-3 a day and on some days youll smoke non, once you get to that point you know your ready to give up.

Thats the experince I have had with the Champix , 20 a day down to five over a two week period .

Th only thing keeping me going at the moment is this little eqation I have in my head.

1X Packet of Silkcut a day = £5.89 x 365 = £2149.85 a year of wich The one with the weird eyebrows gets around £3.50 a packet I belive ?

£2149.85 buys a lot of hookers you know .
