Ok, the curve has turned up, and seems to have sync'd fine with the mac etc, so i'm not gonna throw it back at orange, or at the wall, :D

Questions now are:

a) what apps are worth grabbing?
b) What accessories would you suggest, case especially, more interested in a skin case than a holster....

Cheers :)

I'm not Spawn but I can suggest some apps....

-Weather Eye - great push weather app
-Vigoo - good app for news/sports scorers/more all in one place
-Google maps - essential, always find myself using it for directions
-MSN Messenger
-Facebook
-Twitterberry if your into twitter

Wow a thread with an FAO for me:p:D

Anyhow...apps??...geez quite a few apps...depends if you want to pay or get them free??..the link above is great for apps...crackberry is the best place around for apps and info mate.

On my Bold i have facebook, msn, yahoo, icq and google talk as my messenger apps along with blackberry messenger. Other apps i have which some are free but most paid for are:

Berryweather...weather app..brilliant
Berrybuzz...allows you to change the led notifications for various alerts ie sms, mms, missed call, email, bbm etc etc
Crackberry launcher...says what it says on the tin..launchs crackberry website
Blackberry app world...similar to the appstore that iphones have
Poynt...an app that lets you do local searches for cinemas, restaurants etc
google synch...synch your contacts and calender entries with google
vlingo...voice dialling app...can speak out a text for instance
google maps...no description needed lol
Shazam...exactly like the iphone app
Quicklaunch...lets you set one of the side buttons as shortcuts to different apps
Aerize alerts...pop up for sms, email or missed calls
File lock...allows u to lock files from prying eyes;)
Quickpull....lets you enable a reboot at any time in the day...helps keep your device running fresh..it depends on how bad your device is for memory leaks.

a lot of apps some of them are free and some arent..

Accesory wise...you have to get the charging pod..probably the best accessory out there...skins??..plenty of them out there depends on how much you want to spend.

The charging pod doesnt seem to be available for the curve 8520..which i imagine is the one you have or is it the 8900 curve??..if its the 8900 then they are available but the 8520 isnt out yet...should be one soon though.

Hope this helps...anymore q's feel free to ask.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little....but if Spawn is all knowing regarding blackberrys then I have a question! Pick me!

Okay...so I'm planning on getting a blackberry for my upgrade next month. Which is the best to get? I was looking at the curve but is 8520 or 8900 best? Also, my friend said that they're bringing an upgrade out in December and so not to get one now but to wait? He also said that the curve has a rubbish battery life, is that true?

Basically all I need it for is text, calls, 2 email accounts (gmail and uni webmail) and random facebook browsing etc.

Any help would be great!!! x

Out of those 2 blackberrys i would say the 8900 Curve is the best one...the 8520 is at best an entry level Blackberry..no flash or GPS on it...one thing it does have is the trackpad which a lot of people are liking. But the trackball on the 8900 curve is pretty damn good as well

If you want the very best Blackberry then the Bold, which i have...is the best Blackberry out there...the Bold has 3G whereas the 8900 and 8520 curve do not have 3G...again depends on if you need 3G access. The 8900 is a lovely device though, i had one back in May but sent it back as i couldnt live without 3G plus i had a Bold anyways...its small, light and very thin...much more than the 8520 Curve.

As for the upgrade that your friend might be talking about??..well there are 2 new blackberries out this yr for definite...one is the new Storm2 which will be exclusive to Vodafone i would imagine...that looks pretty good..the other one is the new 9700 Onyx which is similar to the Bold ie has 3G etc but the differences being is that its smaller, lighter and thinner than the Bold...has more memory for app's and has a trackpad instead of the trackball. You could hold out for that one but its going be very expensive even on a contract..cant see it being free unless your on a £40 a month contract and sim free it will probably cost around £500. Personally thats the one im waiting for, should be out by Oct/Nov time fingers crossed...just waiting on a release date so i can place my order for one.

Hope that helps...anymore info feel free to ask or just head over to the link in my sig..biggest and best place for all things Blackberry.

Thanks a lot!

Might sound silly, but what do I need 3G for?? Why couldn't you live without it?

So you think I'd be best just getting my upgrade rather than holding out? I don't want to pay £40 a month....the curve is already £30 for 2 years! Then I need insurance on top, eek! Yeah, don't want £40. Is the storm2 going to be touch screen like the one out now? In which case, I wont want that either as I like a keypad.

Crackberry looks awesome....think I'll spend a lot of time on that once I've got my BB!!

3G is just fast internet plus you can talk and email, text whilst on the phone...if your not going to spend a lot of time browsing the internet on your phone then i dont see the point of spending extra really...the 8900 curve is pretty nippy itself. I couldnt live without 3G as i spend a lot of time browsing on my phone and downloading apps.

Yup id just upgrade now if you cant see yourself getting a £40 a month contract and that will be for at least 18 mths or 2 yrs...make sure you get insurance as they are expensive phones to replace.

The Storm2 is similar to the original one but is supposedly better but as you said you want the keyboard so no point in looking at that.

Crackberry is indeed the best place...so much info and advice you can get there...make sure you register and dont be scared to ask any questions as they have some pretty informative guys there who will be happy to help you.
