Is that what i think it is, playback of a file that has been zipped? Surely it would extract the file to its own temp folder first?

the detail is ther but the black level looks wrong. almost as if its automatically doing a 16-235 > 0-255 conversion.

The MPC one is the correct black level.

Yeah there is no way in vlc to switch decoder like you can in MPC. I use EVR output and disabled internal decoding so divx7's hd codec decodes .264 video

Got this yesterday. Quite happy with this release. Can now press the play button and be able to play a DVD as I used to be able to but it was removed from VLC a few releases ago. :confused:

No idea why it's a brilliant feature.

I have downloaded and installed it and it just can't play dvd? :confused:

Should work. The appeal of VLC is that you pretty much don't need to download any codecs to get files to play. What DVD is it?

I thought so...it is Client Eastwood's A Few Dollars more. It is Vista SP2.

Should work. Played OK for me that on Vista SP2.

Are you getting any error messages? How exactly are you trying to play the DVD? I.e what buttons/menus are you using?

Weird, I took it out and tried other DVD, it played ok. So I returned the same DVD back and it played! I think I was installing VLC while DVD was sitting in the drive so it probably needs to be ejected first then insert it back after VLC installation is completed.

what does everyone think of KMplayer in comparison to VLC? i found VLC quite slow and clunky in comparison to MPC:HC and KMplayer
