After nearly 3 months of applying for my tax rebate, applying again, chasing up the tax office, nagging, cursing, and being generally stubborn, I finally have in my hand a cheque for £1207.

It almost tastes sweeter because I had to work for it. :D

3 months!!! damn I applied for one around November 07 and got it roughly 3 weeks later.

6.5k :D

I got £900 in the first week as that was when I got paid then the rest in a cheque 2 weeks later.

Their excuse was that they were having a new computer system installed. And after it had been installed, their excuse was "well we just had a new computer system installed" as if that were some kind of hindrance.

I got my tax back from working at Christmas today!!

4 phones calls and a letter its taken.

I need to chase mine up. Been over a year, sly barstewards.. hang onto it and don't inform the individual thats owed the money, what a joke.

I need to sort mine out soon - it's getting beyond a joke, everytime I get the piece of info they requested last time they now need a new piece.

Finally I have everything - including letters to send and every piece of paper that could get me a rebate under the sun!

how do you know if you're owed anything?

I had one arrive unrequested a few years ago, it was for about £500, it was nice to receive money that you weren't expecting :D

I sent a formal letter to them about one and a half months ago regarding my tax rebate - but have heard nothing! May have to call them up soon...

I think it's appauling that we're informed ASAP when we owe the smallest amount of money, but when you're owed anything they don't make a peep and make it bloody hard to get back.

Previous experience is actually putting me off doing it again :/

I knew I was owed money because I started my job in January and had been on an emergency tax code since then. I got impatient waiting for them to change it and decided to be proactive about it.

that reminds me, i have been on an emergency tax code for the past two months... i phoned them last month to correct it and they said their systems were being upgraded and they couldn't help me for another month.

what a joke.

Give me the American system anyday, where you are paid in full and its your responsibility to send a tax return each year... so you know how much you are due and you send them the correct amount, and if you really want you dont have to pay them, you can then go and buy an AR-15 and then wait for the IRS to storm your house and have a real life Counter-Strike scenario.

we are treated like chattel slaves in Air Strip One, its ridiculous.

Exactly the same here except I rang up last week.

They told me they have a 6 week backlog so mine should be due any day now.

I got a pretty similar figure years ago after being on BR for a year... was :D lol

I know it should have been mines in the first place, but was still a nice cheque to recieve! :P

when i applied for mine they wouldnt give me a check instead they payed me back abit each week ontop of my wages, so instead of have tax deductions i have an extra 50 a week for a few months :D

Nice, how come it took so long. Never had a problem claiming tax back.

Is there an easy way to check. For last year. Like a calculator you put the info from the p60 in and it works out what you should have paid.
